What's not to like?
An offensive line that has a few small question marks due to inexperience but great ability and potential where those question marks exist and really talented backups. Not looking to correct a whole lot. Just hoping that expectations of younger talent comes through.
A quarterback who is a real leader with great talent and none of the downside question marks that would be swirling around Golson if he stayed. No proven depth is hopefully a problem that doesn't rear it's ugly head.
A proven solid running back with a very talented, athletic, experienced home run potential second running back who the coaches are very high on. (Experienced in playing time...not at running back)
A receiving corp with Fuller, Robinson, Brown, Hunter, Carlisle etc., etc., etc. The biggest question mark here is not whether we have the talent to catch the ball and run with it after the catch, but rather whether Zaire will be consistent enough to get them the ball.
Tight Ends with a lot a depth that will allow us to play a lot of two tight end sets with big strong bodies that should be able to move people in front of them.
Corner backs...Two really talented guys starting.
Linebackers...Any Unit with Jaylon on it will be good but we get Schmidt and Grace back, Onwualu and Martini. Young guys like Barajas and Morgan. Pretty solid.
Safeties with Redfield and Shumate. Tranquill and Sebastian there to help. Not fantastic but a lot of experience.
The defensive line suffered a big blow but if Day, Rochell and Okwara can stay healthy and Hayes, Trumbetti and Blankenship improve, which they all should being young guys, and huge young talent in Tillery, that can be a pretty solid unit although not as deep as most of the team. We could really use Ishaq, but I don't think it's happening.
As far as special teams go, I've read nothing but good things about Yoon and it's good to see talent like Fuller and Carlisle on the return teams. Hopefully Kizer can hold on to the snaps a little better than last year's model. Newsome's punting is reportedly very good.
What we don't see are a lot of proven question marks. By that, I mean guys who don't have talent who have been forced into starting roles and who we are trying to cover for. Most teams have a lot of that. Instead, where Notre Dame has questions marks, they have really talented guys stepping in who we are hoping live up to their billing...and there isn't a whole lot of that either.
This post is in no way any type of in depth analysis but just putting down all the names really feels good.
It's great to have a year where there is great optimism based on talent (optimism by most here anyway) rather than just hoping things work out.
