Some reporters thought that Kelly might believe there is a good chance. Don't think it is a definite

He has applied for immediate eligibility for 2017. It's uncertain whether that will be granted, but when he does receive eligibility it will be for 3 years. Thus, he will have 3 years starting either this year or next.

BB only played in one game and transferred out of Bama in September of '16 to a JUCO so he could take advantage of an NCAA rule.

"According to AL.com’s Matt Zenitz, Barnett decided to transfer now because of NCAA Bylaw 14.5.6, which could allow him to be eligible to play for another FBS program after Week 4 of the 2017 season instead of sitting out all of next year.

The rule could allow a player to become eligible at another FBS school one calendar year after transferring from his first school, provided that the player first transfers to a junior college and completes an average of 12 hours of transferrable credit hours per term with at least a 2.5 GPA."

I believe the optimism surrounding his eligibility is due to the fact that the service academies changed their rule, which now requires cadets hoping to turn pro that they serve a 2 years of active duty after graduation.
