Al Golden

Golden is one of many who are great coordinators but not cut out for head coaching. I hope he stays at ND to build something special. MF, Golden, and, assuming he gets better, Denbrock might build a dynasty...be ambitious.

And yes, pay them well. That is what it takes. ND can afford it. And still be student-athletes while embracing professionalism.

I loved this quote from Golden after the game (talking about his D):

“They’re incredible kids. They are the best of the best,” said defensive coordinator Al Golden. “I think they choose Notre Dame for all the right reasons. It’s not me, me, me. Any of those guys to come here and submit to the program and put your ego aside and go for team glory? That’s rare. Rare. Rare. Rare.”

The culture that Freeman and his staff have built on this team is just remarkable. I've been following ND football for 6 decades, and what Freeman has done with this team and this program is nothing short of extraordinary. I am not sure I have seen anything quite like it. They are not as talented or as dominant as some of the Ara and Holtz teams, but man, they just ball. They play for their brothers. And it has been a thing to behold.

During the game I got a text from one of my friends--a self-professed Notre Dame "hater"--and he said: "I almost hate to admit this, but I am rooting for ND. They are a fun group to watch."

After years of watching Bama and the SEC dominate college football, I imagine some fans are actually happy to see the success of ND.

100%. I wish some guys would realize this sooner. I feel like Al Golden at this stage of his like understands he is not meant to be a head coach. In saying that, you pay this man whatever he wants.

Golden (several of our coaches) will get some big offers. I do hope he sticks.
Thats an unfortunate byproduct of success. It's inevitable. Many guys desire to run their own programs and continue to climb the ladder just like Marcus Freeman. It's becoming more of a young mans profession also.

He could definitely be a good head coach. Miami was just a bad fit. The guy is a good leader. I think he will get another chance if he wants it. He is already very well paid as he signed an extension last year. He does a kid who is a frosh at ND so that may influence his decision.
