6 years and nothing to show for it except a lucky season where Kelly and Co were exposed by Bama as pretenders. Nothing good happens after year 6. No DL, 3 LB's where 1 is going to be a DE and injured his entire playing career while the other two are projected as depth players, average secondary except for Pride. A Tommy Rees clone at QB. 2 RB's who could not make the Delaware State team. The best players ND has had on the team in a while are gone and this is what he replaces them with? You cannot win a national title with good WR's (not great) and an decent QB. Defense wins championships. Kelly still does not get it. Trending downward.

Next year I think there is still enough talent to maybe go 9-3 but after that, get used to 8-5 and 7-6 records.

The 6 year extension had nothing to do with recruitng but with coaching and keep Kelly at ND. Please post with some sort of reason and it would help to be sober....

I think ND is just shutting it down at this point. They want to be K-State/Arizona like. Lock in at 3-5 losses every year and celebrate it afterwards.

They'll sucker more fans to show up even more once the stadium expansion is complete. The product on the field is boring and predictable so enjoy the new stadium at least. Kelly is the most average coach in the business. The people celebrating his extension are making me laugh.

Are you special ed? No, recruiting has nothing to do with being a successful college football coach. LOL. Go Back to the Michigan board you idiot.

Anyone ever wonder why people spend time trolling and constantly complaining? It has to be a psychological disorder, seriously. Who gets joy out of making other miserable?

I'm all for having opinions that may run against the general consensus when I feel strongly but to constantly antagonize others is really childish and narcissistic.

How is it narcissistic? Please define the word and use it it a sentence that would be appropriate for this situation? Use smaller words that you understand.

See the weird thing here is you accuse Sandy of being special ed, which is problematic on a number of levels but we will ignore those for now, and at the same time you misinterpret his post. Sandy said the extension was not related to recruiting, he did not say that there was no correlation between success and recruiting. Those are two distinct arguments, one is responsive to your thread and the other is not.

Sandy? Who the hell is Sandy? Anyway, he said Kelly was not given a 6 year extension for recruiting. Logically, if you do not recruit well, you will not win. In fact, recruiting maybe more of a factor than coaching.

Everything you said is sooo sad yet sooo true. It used to be fun to be a ND fan.....now it's a chore to cheer for program that is so stupid and self destructive.

if this is what the board is like after a coach has an above 70% winning percentage over 6 years and has brought in perennial top 10-15 classes, I cant imagine what it was like in the Willingham years when we barely would crack the top 40.

Honestly you and the person who started this thread should just leave. I am critical of ND football but on a realistic level and because I love this program, you both sound like Michigan trolls who have nothing better to do in life then to come here and write stupid crap.

Nothing this poster said was accurate! If he/she had any clue about football then he/she would recognize what Kelly has done with terrible injury plagued seasons and not 1 true stud at QB, maybe Kizer or Malik becomes that guy so Kelly finally can get his system started.

Kelly has recruited decently, especially up front producing some of the best offensive linemen we have had at ND in a long time, with more to come. Other kids have not lived up to their potential, guys like Max, and some big recruits transferred.

This isn't the 50's when ND was dominating the college football system and if you haven't figured that out then you are definitely not an Irish fan or are really blind. How can we compete with a program like Bama that has had the top 1 or 2 recruiting class for the past 9 years? I mean it sounds like that is what you expect but it won't happen.

This recruiting class is on par with reality of ND football today.

A B- recruiting class for a B- football program.
Are you for real? I think the program addressed areas of need with this class and why the hell are you calling Notre Dame a B- program. Go to hell and stay off the board.

I know you are looking at the situation with rose colored glasses... Try to be a realist if a program doesn't win a single major bowl in 22 years B- rating should be considered a compliment. If it makes you feel any better you can give ND football A+ rating.

By the way a team that had such porous defense signed 0 DT.. Is DT not an area of need?

I believe the team addressed the DL and LB positions in the last recruiting cycle. Yes I would have been happy with a DL or two in this class. BTW I don't have rose colored glasses.

What does the team's record 20 years ago have to do with today? You regularly criticize everyone for having "rose colored glasses." Yet all you see are shades of black.

That's not the most responsive answer but ok. The question still remains for @rivals50 based on 85 men what # of scholarships do you give to DT. It can be a range.

Maybe you should study our roster and then come back.

To be fair ... and objective, the staff did as well as any staff could, ND presents obstacles and disadvantages.

Everyone wishes there were a couple DT's and DE's or another elite LB, but it did not happen, and effort by the staff was not the problem.

No, not really

With Jones back, we'll have 3 DTs with starting experience who appear to be future NFL players.
J. Jones
J. Tillery
Daniel Cage

Not to mention a very large number of promising prospects for the future who have 3-4 years left
Hayes (3 Years)
Bonner (3 Years)
Mokwuaha (3 Years)
Dew-Treadway (4 Years)
Taylor (4 Years)
Tiassum (4 Years)

After taking 6 DTs in the last 2 years, and red shirting all of them, DT wasn't a position of need in the 2016 class (unless we could land an immediate impact talent)

Well likely make it a position of priority in the 2017 class though

You guys do know we're fairly likely to land Demitris Robertson and therefore end with a Top10 Overall class that addresses most jd lost primary needs...right?

Is there normally this much crying about a Top10 class, with multiple 5* players, that address all priority needs??
