It is a long way off, but the kid looks great on tape. Throws a real nice ball - both touch and a rope when he needs it. I would offer his WR also!

I wonder the level of compatition in the Reno area?

If anyone has ever been to Reno Nevada it's the one place that makes going to South Bend appealing.

.

He plays in the highest level of Nevada football, & his team plays multiple (3 last year) large California schools.

He competed at a private camp with the other QBs ND was looking at & was the standout.

Interesting ND chose this kid over Dylan Morris, who committed to Washington instead. Morris is a .98 comp, 4 star, top 50 national prospect and right now McNamara is unranked and has a very small offer list. Both quarterbacks came to South Bend and passed the ball in front of the staff and they chose Cade over Dylan, both of whom apparently wanted to commit.

I just wanted some people who may think this is a "meh" commitment to know that ND could have taken a higher ranked kid and in this case, specifically chose the lesser ranked prospect because they were able to make their own in person evaluation.

I'm not in anyway an expert. However, is it likely or possible they offered the " lesser talented" kid because he is better academically? I have a feeling that the administration doesn't want the publicity of kids they bring in not being able to cut it in the classroom. This is just speculation on my part. But you have to wonder why pass on a kid, who , by all accounts is a better prospect?

it is very early in the 2019 process of evaluating the QBs. Heck, they just reshuffled the 2018 group.
Data data data: the more you have the better the 'guess'.

They had 5 top QB prospects who were interested in ND on campus for a private workout.

McNamara was the standout. He was much better than Morris in person.
Morris contacted ND multiple times, but ND wanted McNamara so Morris then chose UW.

McNamara actually committed to ND weeks ago, but wanted to do it officially in person in SB.
He is in no way "lesser talented." He is a young sophomore who threw for over 3500 yards & 46 TDs last season.
Trust the coaches who actually saw the QBs in person other than recruiting services who don't pay much attention to Freshmen & Sophomores.

1. Many considered Kizer a Top 100 prospect. (Loy had him top 50)
2. Rees was starter often by default; his best role was backup.

(once a kid commits, they are no longer open for critical discussion.)

I personally give Cade McNamara 5 stars due to his name alone. I envision Cade breaking all of Tom Bradys records when he finishes up his NFL career. I see it in the fire.

Bodi..........

Re: "I personally give Cade McNamara 5 stars due to his name alone."

LOL!
In that case you are going to love it when ND plays Miami and goes up against Cade Weldon, the son of former Heisman runner up and NFL QB, Casey Weldon. That is assuming Cade starts or gets some PT. :D

Great post and as an Irish fan very happy to land the young man.

"One source actually compared McNamara to another quarterback Notre Dame offered in 2019, Dylan Morris, a recent Washington commit. He said that McNamara was the guy he would offer after seeing both in person and believed that he had the 'much higher ceiling.' It'll be interesting to watch how things progress with both quarterbacks." These guys haven't played their junior seasons yet! I do like his long passes. Hits them going full stride over the shoulder.

Lol who said that about Kizer? Rees... man if only ND had something better.

People quickly forget that Zaire was the man with 3 years eligibility left. Then Wimbush was the next big thing (considered better than both Zaire & Kizer).
If Zaire doesn't get hurt against Virginia he plays all of '15, no one knows Kizer is talented , Zaire comes back as starter in '16, & could have came back in '17 also. With Wimbush as the next in line. Kizer would have been a 4 year backup.

Good info. Thank you.

Kid can sling it, already feels the pocket and has a great touch.

Bodi I'm thinking more Favre-esque then Brady.

Okay, I know, I know, he's 15 but we can dream, right?!

Pretty much spot on.

Remember people calling for Kizer's head when he was the holder on field goals and kept fumbling the snap? This kid would have never seen the field at QB had Golson stayed at ND and Zaire not been hurt.

And you may have never heard of any of these names had Kiel stayed around a couple more months instead of bolting when he did. Golson was suspended and Kiel could have stepped right in and been the next big thing. Instead, he transferred and we were left with Rees by default.

Things happen for a reason, and not all things are controlled by the coaches.

Speaking of him being 15, JT Daniels (the 5 Star that ND was in for until both sides backed off) is 2 full years older than McNamara & they are in the same class. So this year as they both enter their Junior seasons Daniels could actually be entering college. Daniels will be a 20 year old freshman in college.
McNamara announced he will be an early enrollee so he will be a 17 year old freshman.

A lot of upside for a kid who hasn't even grown into his body yet.

They evaluated both and took the best one.

There's a lot to like about the young man. Good pocket awareness; scouts has said he's got excellent arm strength; he can make any throw without effort; and possesses a cool head at all times. He's a playbook junkie according to his coach. Several scouts believe he'll be the next four star QB. He announced yesterday that he's finished with recruiting, except he will recruit for the 2019 ND class. He's excited about the QB competition at ND. I like players who aren't intimidated by competition.

Kiel never had the heart.

I just notice that on front Cade McNamara picked up his fourth star today. Sometimes it pays to trust the coaches. They see a lot more than the fans do and get to know the young men too!

Stars aside, Cade was a very good pickup because ND wants to keep good number a at quarterback and part of that is going after a guy who will sit and wait his turn, the year after a stud who will likely command the starting job sooner than later. Wimbush, Book, Jurkovec, McNamara is a rally good 4 year haul. Especially when you take in account what I said above.

Both Book and McNamara can start for you if need be and you can still win a lot of games. Maybe one of them ends up being better than people think and you found a gem. If not, they're exactly who you hoped they'd be. Fiercely competitive kids, but even better teammates.

I think daniels is one year ahead not two. So he was like a junior last year, not a soph.

Nope. They are the same class. Daniels is in the '19 class, same as McNamara. They both will be entering their Junior years. Daniels is two years older though.

That is REALLY EASY to look up USC fan.

right, daniels is a year ahead. he should be a senior this year. not a junior. where did you find his date of birth?

He is over a year & a half over, actually. The reason everyone knows his age is because California has a cutoff date to be able to play HS football, & Daniels' Senior year he will be too old. This is what has been reported by recruiting services.
In fact, ND has two players that were EE's this year who are younger than Daniels when they started their ND careers. (17)

hr hits the the cut off for being one year ahead. and a good majority of football are older for their grade. He basically averages beig about being about A YEAR Older than his competition. Wasn't clausen like a 1.5 or 2 years older as well. By law, JTD is one year ahead of his actual grade. Is that a huge deal.

Put it to you this way, even if he was senior this year(not a soph) he would have been a 5 star qb. He has a college arm.The kid is phenomenal. Clausen was amazing as a soph as well. Very similar. I felt clausen should have come back for one more year at nd as he was not quite ready for the pros. He had the talent, but I felt he jumped to the nfl a little too early.

Clausen was just old for his class, same as Daniels, except Daniels was ALSO a year behind (don't know if held back or if on purpose). So Daniels is both old for his class & a year behind, thus being almost 2 years older than his classmates.
On the premium site there are people who's kids play at & against Mater Dai & know both the Daniels & St. Brown families. They know JT & they have confirmed he is 2 years older than most his classmates. He was already 17 at the camp circuits over the summer, & not a single other player in his class had even turned 16 yet at the same camp.

As for how good he is, who knows? I know he was VERY close with Sanford at ND & that is why he was a heavy ND lean early. But when Sanford left ND in the offseason Daniels & ND backed off each other. But when Daniels was at the closed QB workouts that has '17, '18 & '19 kids all at it he was not the top kid their. So kids his own age ('17 class) & kids younger ('18 class) out performed him. He is already a man (17 years old is developed) & some of the kids in his class aren't yet (still 15). There are two 15 year old QB's that are top 5 in his class that are high 4 Stars. How good do you think they will be in two years? (When they are JT's age).
JT will turn 18 during his Junior year. There are freshmen in college football who won't turn 18 until October this season.
It is what it is.
He is good, but Fields & Lawrence (both younger than JT) are better. They are just in the '18 class (as Daniels should at least be in).
But at the end of the day it doesn't matter because Daniels can be any age in college. So it's not about saying he is not good, just other kids are also good, they just haven't naturally matured the way Daniels already has.
