I have changed my mind about Malik Zaire beating out DeShone Kizer as the starting QB for the Irish. Malik is a helluva player and leader but Kizer is a budding superstar.
I rewatched a few of the games over the last weekend and I was blown away by the play of the young Kizer.
He will be a junior this year and his turnovers will go way down.
He has a great oline with stud running backs and receivers. The schedule is fairly easy and the Irish should make the playoffs to further show case his talents. The media will love the witty well spoken leader of the Irish and that will help his Heisman chances.
I believe Kizer will have many games like the game he had against Pitt. He threw for 5 TD's and ran for another TD with no turnovers and left the game early with a 42 to 14 lead.

6'4.5" 235 lbs with a great arm and can run like a deer.

Please bookmark this post End23 and bump it on Heisman night. Thank you in advance.

You finally see the light? Kizer maybe the one guy who could carry the team over a tougher opponent. He has super star, Heisman potential. Now can he get there without - you know who - ruining him? Fingers crossed...

I think Coach Sanford, Coach Denbrock, and Coach Kelly did a heck of a job coaching up the QB's last year. Coach Sanford is a quarterback whisperer. Kizer is in good hands.

It's not Sanford or Denbrock I'm worried about - it's 8&4 that worries me. Hope Sanford can develop this talent. If so, he deserves to be considered for a HC position - somewhere.

# 8 Malik and # 4 Tevon Coney will be fine. Malik is just getting used to having his legs back and Tevon will be back healthy in the fall.

I think you're on the right track, but a year ahead of yourself. I think ND's offense will have a very good year and Kizer will be exceptional, but 2017 will be his campaign where he makes a run at the Heisman, in part because of his skills and in part because of the players around him making plays.

2017 offense

QB: DeShone Kizer (SR)
RB: Josh Adams (JR)
WR: Torii Hunter Jr (SR)
WR: Equanimeous St. Brown (JR)
Slot: Corey Holmes (SR)
TE: Aliz'e Jones (JR)
LT: Mike McGlinchey (SR)
LG: Quenton Nelson (SR)
C: Sam Mustipher (SR)
RG: Tommy Kraemer (SOPH)
RT: Alex Bars (SR)

That's what a Heisman winning offense looks like folks.

Bodi, I find myself emotionally wanting Malik to reclaim the starting QB position because he had played so well in the LSU and Texas games, and I hate to see someone lose their job to an injury. That said, Kizer had a great season for a first year starter, and his physical measurable are NFL for sure. This might be one of those anomoloies where Malik is the better college QB because of his run game, and Kizer the better pro. I think the proverbial bottom line boils down to the strength of our OL. If they gel quickly and dominate and prove to be outstanding pass play blockers, then I expect Kizer to start and to be a star. If they prove to be great run blockers but poor or average at pass protection, then I expect Malik to get the nod. My money is on Kizer.

Some posters react like Coach Kelly kicked dirt in faces. Coach Kelly has a proven QB record. He even got Tommy Rees to play way above his abilities. He brought in Coach Sanford to take over the QB room. He's done an outstanding job. I hope the young coach stays around for a while before taking a head coaching job.

"Coach Kelly has a proven QB record." He most certainly does not. Prior to Sanford's arrival please define it.

His best job of managing a QB was when he toned down his pop gun/ pass happy offense in 2012. Golson threw for 12 TDs and 6 ints. Rees added 2 TDs and 2 ints that year.

Here's a link to the QB stats under kelly. Have at it....

Crist, Montana, Rees, Hendrix, Golson.....

http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/notre-dame/2012.html

PS He thoroughly mismanaged the quarterbacks in '14. It got to the point where Golson wouldn't even look at him.

The staff has much more material to make their decision than the fans do. That's exactly why fans are wrong about these things more often than not. Whoever wins the QB job earned it and should have the total support of the players and staff (hopefully). But, I will make a prediction of my own. There will be a major war of words among fans the first time the starter has a misstep. It will reach epic proportions way after the playing days of all three QBs are over. And Tommy Rees will smile. I think the Irish are blessed with three outstanding QBs who are extremely athletic. It's a win win win.

imo The players on the team know who the starter should be. A poor decision may prove divisive.

Kizer is a solid QB with great upside but at this stage I would be inclined to favor two other QB's (Clemson and Miami) and FSU's Cook as Heisman hopefuls. Kizer will get his chance next year if Zaire doesn't beat him out. Don't discount Wimbush.

I hope you are right because the 2017 schedule might be a doozy. 3 tough road games (@MSU, @Miami, & @ Stanford) + Georgia & USC at home.

Bodi............

Speaking of Heisman hopeful QB's, the game against Miami in South Bend should be extremely interesting for that very reason. With Kizer as a Heisman hopeful he will be pitted against another Heisman hopeful in Miami's Brad Kayaa.

Remember Bodi.........Miami..........the team you have predicted ND will beat by 38 points!!!
BTW, just how do we posters go about getting a little of that action. :)

I was being very conservative with the 38 point spread. It might be worse. Miami is Notre Dames biatch.

Bodi...........

By all means..............please................come back to the message board following the Miami game and give us all your breakdown. Until then we are all waiting with bated breath.

I know its early, but McGlinchey may leave early and be a first round pick. The good thing is that we will have Eichenberg patiently waiting for his turn to be the next stud OL.

Bodi.........

Good job with last year's video.

This year it will be: ND--Returning starters: 5 offense, 5 defense
Miami--Returning starters: 9 offense, 7 defense plus all new coaches

Do I think Miami will roll into South Bend and win the game? Probably not. But then again you never know and that's the beauty of CFB. Vegas will favor ND by a few points.

Do I think ND will win by 38 points as you have predicted? Anything is possible in CFB but I would take Miami and 38 against any team in the country all day long!

One thing for sure, it will be a great game featuring the 2 Heisman hopefuls. (assuming Kizer and Kayaa both play)

Good luck with your predictions and enjoy the season all the way through the end no matter the outcome.

Last summer you were warning the Irish about Georgia Tech, so now it's all about Miami, huh? Didn't Karma bite you in the hind end when the Irish beat GT and FSU lost to the Yellow Jackets?

I was one of the few who predicted the Irish to blow out Georgia Tech last year. How could you have been so wrong? Please explain yourself.

GT explanation.........all the wheels came off and they went to hell in a hand basket.

FSU's loss to GT........blocked field goal that was going for the game winner but instead was run back for a TD. Essentially the same thing happened to Alabama vs. Auburn in 2013. Stuff happens.

Please note: I agree ND will likely beat Miami. And if anybody anywhere will give me Miami and 38 vs. ND I'll bet the ranch on Miami. ;)

I don't think it will happen in 2016, but I believe Mark Richt will have Miami in the hunt for ACC titles soon.
