Why are 5-star prospects allergic to this football program for 10+ years now?

it's a really weird situation to be in; once a guy gets a 5th star here he decommits. Mayer was the last 5 star prospect almost 4 years ago ? it's like we have anti 5 star prospect repelent on on this campus. We are the NFL organization that hasn't had a first round pick for 10 years and we field a team full of Bs, when it takes As to win titles. The thing we need to win a title (elite prospects) is more elusive than ever and no matter how much we fans pay/support the program with cash and ratings ND continues to do business as usual.

this program is a mess right now; not even hiring a hip 35 yr old coach will land us elite prospects.

We have turned into the plain average generic joe at the dance that none of the bangers/hot chicks will touch with a 10 foot pole and a lot of you are content/happy with the situation.

You have to understand how ratings services work. They are there to generate clicks. Notre Dame traditionally gets high rated players early on in the process. From that point on no matter what those players do....unless they decommit...they aren't generating clicks...so they will drop in the ratings. People are more interested in seeing the high star holdouts and where they go....so they move up as they wait and get more publicity.

Now the second part that impacts Notre Dame much more. 247, on3 et al do not have 100 person research arms covering every HS player and their camp performances and their games. They depend a GREAT DEAL on 2nd and 3rd hand information. This used to help Notre Dame in rankings, because of Notre Dame gave a kid an offer they figured that's a high performing kid.... Now this skews heavily towards Alabama. Anyone that commits to Alabama gets a huge jump in ratings... Why? Because Alabama does have 100 people on staff researching HS kids and has a track record to support their findings. There are other schools too and of course some position coaches are looked at differently, but this is how it works.

ND might get a 5 star ol or the to stay at that level, but that's about it.

The class is good. Needs to continue each year. ‘24 needs to be better if we are going to win or all. Carr is a 5 star QB. If he decommits then I’ll buy the sky falling narrative. Right now, he’s locked in and we are dominating in the high 4 star range, which means we have guys good enough to win a title. If you’re the 40th best player and the 39th best player is the 5 star cutoff, it hurts your team ranking. Team ranking is a bit misleading. Top 10 classes can all win a championship. Clemson is proof of that and don’t count out Michigan. We just need a way better QB than Pyne and Buchner. If recruiting was all that mattered TAMU would be good. We don’t need Bowen. He’s a ****ing safety. Go cry about Keeley, not Bowen. Of the two Bowen’s, we got the more valuable one to the future of this program.

book learning! some stupid ass adults are throwing money at 17 year old!

The ND admin cannot stop rich alumni from dropping bags on kids. Some of these old rich donors needs to start a go fund me or something. It really is likely just that nobody is stepping up to lead such a cause. It’s very doable.

Turned into????

We are actually in the best shape since Lou started to turn the program south in '93 (when he got owned by Coughlin who had far less talent). That is 30 years. Not like we've been winning a lot of National Championships during that time!.

CFB is different than it was under Lou. In those days we competed with other Universities for Players.

Now college football is semi-pro and ND is actually doing very very well compared to Northwestern, Stanford, Duke --schools that require their kids to have grades coming into school, attend classes while at school with the goal of getting a degree.

We've been a top 5 program during Kelly's time. Which is astounding given that kids really don't seem to care about going to college anymore. They want money and a semi pro experience. Kids at USC and Alabama can't be bothered going to classes and getting grades.

Maybe you should find another team to cheer for?

I'm going to stick around, cheer for Old ND, and Marcus to put it all together. I've been an ND fan my whole life, an alum who played hoops with Montana and Dantley was in Dallas when we won the Championship vs. Texas.

We'll get there. If not, I'll have fun cheering my boys on.

Some programs play for championships, others just talk about playing for championships! Talk is cheap!

Jaylen Sneed was a 5 star last year

We are far from a mess of a program.

We've been between 6 and 10 as a program since 2015

Would you identify those old rich alumni who are dropping bags of cash ?

Thanks

Maybe because they don’t want to support criminals

Program is in good shape even with a minor setback this year due to poor coaching. If the team ascends next year and finishes 10-2 or better the program has a chance to take off. Another bad coaching season and concerns will rise. Need a portal qb bad to sure things up.

Wweellllll...

Didn't the F+p123 thing tell you why?

How about my eye test and RE AL i TEE shed the light.

Winning big games.
Lack of.
Kids still want to win.
Not here for a long time.

No 5 star QB's
Top QB's that comitted to the program bring other top recruits by default.
5 star's love playing with 5 star's
Top QB's have clout and if they want to come other's will follow

Last QB from ND to be a Heisman finalist?

Last RB from our beloved to be a Heisman finalist?

Nope...we get a linebacker who was in the right place at the right time on 7 occasions grabbing an interception to nearly win a Heisman.

That's 10 years.

10 years prior to that?
Nobody

10 years prior to that?
The Rocket kind of....12 years prior

We can't even get a "what the heck, why not Dudek" sprinkled in there.

The Heisman isn't everything but this is afterall ND and to be devoid for great lengths without even a finalist is pretty telling.

A couple 5 star QB's or high star's playing like 5 star's will get the recruiting machine in high gear.

Winning some huge games help too. Kids...even the primadonna kids....are suckers for winning.

There's your 5 star lack of, reasons right there.

Good day and cheerio

He's a typical star worshipper. Doesn't understand "fit" at all. Roster management becomes the most important thing for any program going forward now. Recruiting now involves high school kids, players on other teams plus retaining your own. Establishing a "culture " just got more difficult especially for young coaches.

THE TALENT (which the stars represent) is the *************************************OBVIOUS*********************************************** issue in the program.

How many more F#*(#&%*(# years of mediocre with 2nd rate/tier 2 athletes/tier 2 results do we have to see before it's evident to everybody?

It's a F*(#&%*(#&%*( joke just how wealthy us fans have made this football program with our love and support. WHERE IS THE ADMINS enthusiasm and support for the product to match ours?

sigh

We should be top 5 in the following KEY areas based on fan support/revenues/popularity:
  • Facilities
  • Coaching staff (we should have the best personnel money could possibly buy leading our team and developing our players)
  • Recruiting
  • ***FOOOTBALLL*** budget
  • NIL
Instead we got a bunch of out of touch wealthy dudes at Notre Dame sitting in their high castle trying to run a billion dollar enterprise like it's high school football in the suburbs back in the 1960s

We are not going to win titles because our helmets are gold and we have a really cool fight song. We need the best and the best requires THE BEST resources. And these F*(&*(#&%*(# admins will not front the bill for some god forsaken reason, and they won't F*&#%(*#& budge with their draconian policies as it relates to running a football program in the year 2022.

Rockne spearheaded Notre Dame's football program by being a visionary. By constantly pushing the boundaries and running a program on the cutting edge ahead of the rest. And under Father Hesburgh throughout the mid 20th century ND was ALWAYS on the cutting edge. Thinking 2 steps ahead of the rest in full support of the football product and the fans that made Notre Dame such a special place.

Where is that spunk/vision/vibrance at Notre Dame today?

*sigh*

I've said it many times, and I will say it again. You need to find another school to pull for. ND obviously does not meet your lofty expectations.

I could be mistaken but I thought that we had two undefeated seasons and played for two National Championships in the last ten years.

Did I miss something ?

The FACT is that you’re missing far more than something !

You don’t have a clue as to how Swarbrick, the Administration and the Board of trustees view and guide the football program.

And the biggest joke of all, the biggest example of your total ignorance is you citing Father Hesburgh as a driving force, a visionary when it came to football !

The FACT is that Father Hesburgh DE-EMPHASIZED football at Notre Dame !

Everybody on the planet knows that …….. except you !
