Update: I'm told that Notre Dame doesn't intend to host Lunsford for a visit this weekend. The Irish are happy with their OL depth chart at the moment.

Maryland offensive lineman Mason Lunsford announced on Feb. 18 that he was entering the transfer portal. Now he's announced that he plans to take an official visit to Notre Dame this weekend.

The 6-foot-7, 305-pound Lunsford started at left guard in 23 of Maryland's 26 games the last two seasons. He entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Since entering the portal, Lunsford reported offers from LSU, Arkansas, Louisville, Houston, Tulane, Charlotte, Buffalo and James Madison. Pro Football Focus gave Lunsford a 79.8 pass blocking grade and a 62.1 run blocking grade for his play last season. Notre Dame's 2022 starting left guard Jarrett Patterson, who left the program this offseason for the NFL, received 73.4 and and 70.3 grades, respectively last season. Starting right guard Josh Lugg, also not returning, was given 65.3 and 71.7 grades, respectively.

Lunsford signed with Maryland as a three-star recruit in the 2019 class out of Olney (Md.) Good Counsel. That's the same school that sent CB Cam Hart and OL Sam Mustipher to Notre Dame in recent years.
