We are extremely excited to announce the addition of Tyler Horka to our staff at Blue & Gold.
We had over 50 candidates apply for this position, and we interviewed five outstanding journalists. Tyler’s work ethic, hunger for success, willingness to be coached and how he conducted himself during the interview process made him a slam-dunk hire for us.
Tyler has spent the last three years covering Mississippi State athletics for The Clarion Ledger, part of the USA Today Network. He’s amassed over 10,000 Twitter followers, and when he announced that he was leaving his job covering the Bulldogs, he had hundreds of tweets pile in thanking him for his excellent coverage. We believe that Notre Dame fans will love Tyler’s work as well.
Tyler’s main responsibility will be covering the Notre Dame football team alongside Patrick Engel, and he will also lead our baseball and women’s basketball coverage. Tyler will be fantastic on our podcasts/YouTube shows as well.
Tyler graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2018. He worked for The Daily Texan, UT's student newspaper, in six of eight semesters. He interned with NFL.com in Los Angeles and Sports Illustrated in New York City.
There is no replacing Lou Somogyi, but that doesn’t mean this site can’t be special and something that Lou would be proud of. We believe we’re taking a big step in that direction by hiring Tyler Horka.
