Notre Dame softball (30-19-1) failed to keep its season alive Saturday evening after splitting games with Harvard and Arksans in the Arkansas Regional in Fayetteville, Ark.

The Irish defeated Harvard (29-17-1) 5-2 in their first elimination game Saturday.

After jumping out to a 2-0 lead, Notre Dame graduate student pitcher Payton Tidd allowed a Harvard home run to make it a one-point game. Crimson junior infielder Kendall Jean was responsible for the score. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Notre Dame scored its final three runs when junior infielder Karina Gaskins hit Notre Dame’s lone home run.

Gaskins led the Irish going 3-for-3 and adding five RBIs. Junior outfielder Carlli Kloss scored twice, while senior infielders Brooke Marquez and Joley Mitchell also scored.

Sophomore pitcher Shannon Becker relieved Tidd and earned the win on the mound, allowing three hits and zero runs. It improved her record to 8-3 for the season.

It was a quick turnaround for the Irish who matched up with Arkansas (40-18) a little over 30 minutes after defeating Harvard.

Freshman pitcher Micaela Kastor started for Notre Dame. She entered the game with a 7-4 record.

Arkansas found success early and captured a 2-0 lead after the first two innings. Sophomore outfielder Raigan Kramer recorded a RBI-single in the second inning.

The score kept even for the next few innings until the Razorbacks began the seventh inning. Redshirt utility Rylin Hedgecock homered to left field and gave Arkansas three runs scored as Kramer and freshman outfielder Regan Johnson were already on base. That sealed the Razorbacks' 5-0 victory.

In 24 at-bats, the Irish registered three hits. Graduate student infielder Lexi Orozco went 2-of-3 and hit singles in the bottom of the second and fourth innings, respectively. Mitchell also connected on a single in the bottom of the sixth inning and went 1-of-3.
