HKY: Notre Dame hockey pummels No. 8 Minnesota, 6-1

Cole Knuble scored a pair of goals and Ryan Bischel amassed 31 saves as Notre Dame overwhelmed No. 8 Minnesota, 6-1, Friday night in a Big Ten hockey matchup at Compton Family Ice Arena in South Bend, Ind.

The Irish (15-14-2, 9-10-2 Big Ten) broke the game open with four second-period goals. Carter Slaggert, Landon Slaggert, Danny Nelson and Drew Bavaro also scored goals for Notre Dame, which broke a three-game losing streak in taking down the Gophers (18-8-5, 11-6-4). Nelson had two assists as well.

The two teams conclude the two-game series Saturday night (6 EST) with Notre Dame honoring its seniors in the final regular-season home game. The Irish then close the regular season next weekend at Michigan.
