Baseball: Irish First Baseman Niko Kavadas Named to Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List

The award goes to the top amateur baseball player in the nation.

“Well deserved for Niko,” said head coach Link Jarrett in a statement. “He has worked very hard and has been one of the game's elite hitters. This is a reflection of his intensity within the at-bat combined with a gift of elite skill.”

Kavadas is second in the nation in home runs per game (0.55), third in slugging percentage (.903) and fifth in home runs (12). Kavadas leads the ACC in home runs per game and slugging percentage and is second in home runs.

There are a total of 45 players on the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, including 14 from the ACC:
