We can put all this joining a conference talk to bed

Notre Dame will remain independent.

Still a lot of questions. One involves the timing.

Will this be a bump up from their current contract beginning in 2023? Or will this coincide with their new contract starting in 2026? If it doesn’t start until their new contract starts in 2026, they will be throwing away roughly over $200,000,000 million dollars over the next three years.

If it starts in 2023 to coincide with the new Big Ten Contract, they will still be throwing away a ton of money, but the hit won’t be nearly as bad.

Another is the time slots. Word is that the Big Ten will have NBC’s exclusive rights to the 7:30 PM time slot window. I doubt the Big Ten will agree to give that up unless there has been some kind of carve out negotiated. If not, Notre Dame will be locked out of any night Home Games for the duration of the Big Ten NBC Contract.

One solution of course would be if Notre Dame played a Big Ten team in South Bend. NBC would hold the rights to both teams, so It’s possible the Big Ten would allow Notre Dame to schedule a game at night since a Big Ten team would be the opponent.

Many other questions, but of course the night game issue evaporates if Notre Dame actually joins the Big Ten.

Of course they are for now. Down the road ? I think it's inevitable going forward if there is a serious move to super conferences.
I would argue the move to super conferences is in full swing.

I'd also argue that people saying that Notre Dame is still truly independent would also say that a rabbit caught in the grip of a python was still a free animal. Notre Dame may be a big rabbit, but it's still the rabbit in this scenario.

Another big ten troll with another idiotic rant.
So far you have been wrong so much but its fun to see trolls like you twist in the wind

I’m going to trust the people in charge, they’ve navigated this program pretty well over the last two decades of change … and remember nothing is forever. Never and always are two words that shouldn’t exist.

It will depend on if they retain access to play for championships, but the money will not be an issue.
2 conferences can't squeeze out the rest of the FBS. Lawsuits would be flying, anti-trust, collusion, call it what you want.

Sure they can. The current "championship" is an invitational tournament created by ESPN. It is not a creation of the NCAA. Therefore, they can set whatever eligibility rules they want. If it is conference and/or divisional champions only, there's not a thing anyone can do about it.

Two 24 team mega conferences can create their own championship series. The NCAA has nothing to do with the current format.

And the rest of the FBS schools will sue. So 48 teams when there are over 60 P5 schools and countless G5 schools. That will create some boring matchups.

Sue who and for what ? ? Those say 48 schools would not be in breach of contract of anything. This has been discussed behind closed doors for a few years now.

They would likely form their own association. Less powerful and less attractive.

That poster is a “blow”hard ….good call-out

It's called collusion, anti-trust. There will be lawsuits
Nope. Article today at ESPN about the Managers of the CFP starting their own governing body for college football separate from the NCAA. No one will be suing. No collusion whatsoever.

They can split off just like they did in 1978 when there became D1 and 1-AA.

The B10 isn't going to allow their teams to schedule and play an independent Notre Dame going forward. That's fantasy land and Swarbrick knows it. Lots of posturing and leveraging going on.

This is absolute nonsense. The Big 10 is not going to push ND to join the SEC. Plus USC already received assurances that it will be allowed to continue playing ND when it joins the Big 10.

Things change quickly in this new super conference world. There will be a B10 semfinal playoff game to go with a 10 game conference schedule so tell me where the Irish will be playing any of the members of this conference? Notre Dame would never join the SEC, they're boxed in by the B10 and they know it.

You don't know the future any more than anyone else does. Stop acting like you do.

Do you think the B10 will have 2 divisions of 12 teams? They've already talked about getting rid of divisions and having Pods of 5 teams. Each team plays the other 4 teams within their pod annually, and they rotate the other 3 pods each year. This way every conference member plays each other once every 3 years. That's 9 gabe's per year. That leaves 3 games left for OOC teams.

Now I know you are talking out of your a$$ and know nothing.
If you read up on the history of the NCAA and the divisions, you'll quickly realize it has nothing to do with conference affiliation, but rather meeting specific criteria which drops a school into FBS, FCS, DII or DIII classification. Attendance minimums, minimum number of sports offered, etc.
The only reason you have these super conferences forming is $$$$$$$. The bigger the conference the bigger the media rights deal. Like I said, the only way ND's hand is forced is if they get boxed out of playing for championships. Right now that's not happening and the SEC is all for having zero automatic qualifiers because they know they could get 2 teams in a 4 team
playoff, and they could get more teams in an expanded playoff.
The B10 wants AQ's because they know they are the weaker conference.

We may know more tomorrow (Thursday). If reports are accurate, that’s when the Big Ten is going to announce their new media Rights Deal.

The current reporting on the Big Ten media Rights deal might be all smoke. But if it’s not, and Notre Dame’s $60 million dollar NBC raise doesn’t take affect until their new contract begins in 2026, they will be receiving $65 to $70 million dollars less than Rutgers or Indiana over the next three years, beginning in 2023. You do the math.

If it’s a bump up on your current contract, you’ll still lose a lot of money, but the hit won’t be quite as bad.

We also have to see if the reporting is right about the exclusive 7:30 PM window NBC is alleged to have carved out for the Big Ten. If true, not only will you be making less money, even based on an immediate $60 million dollar bump beginning in 2023 coinciding with the Big Ten’s Contract, but you will be promoting their game all through your 2:30 PM time slot with no reciprocation. Unless you agree to play on a Thursday or Friday night, you may be blocked out of being able to play any Home Games at night.

Makes no sense that Notre Dame would agree to something like that unless they were planning to join. That’s why all the questions. Most on here seem oblivious to what’s going on.

I get that Independence is important. But if the reports are accurate, the Big Ten and NBC are taking you guys to the cleaners.

Maybe we will know more tomorrow if the Big Ten announces.

Notre Dame will remain independent.
ND was never joining a conference. ND is a conference itself. (At least football)
Just how powerful?
It's been since 1993 that they truly have been a yearly upper echelon power.
Sure they've been a Cinderella a few times since then.
It's been 30 years since they've been a top team with swagger and legitimate expectation to win no matter the venue. Yet here we are and ND is still king of the draw.
Those that love them and equally those that hate them. Either way it's the name that everyone wants and or wants to take down.
Still wanted like no other even after 30 years of mostly mediocre football.

That's extraordinarily powerful.

But ND still would not enjoy any of that -- even if they decided to join the B10 -- they would not get an exit for a few years from their ACC contract -- so, the earliest ND would get to take advantage would be 2025/2026 -- and a bigger point for you B10 nuts -- if you think it (being indeoendent) is all about the money, you really have no idea WHY ND chooses to remain independent.

and stealing a line from ND88 -- "Yet here we are and ND is still king of the draw. Those that love them and equally those that hate them. Either way it's the name that everyone wants and or wants to take down."

That is a decision left to those who make them -- if ND is content with their deal, why do you feel ND is being taken to the cleaners? Again, it is NOT ABOUT the money, unlike those in the B10.

ND is not joining a conference unless the are pushed out of the CFB playoffs. They will take less money to be independent, which is what is happening by not joining the Big Ten. Personally I think they want to be able to schedule their own games (Navy, BC, etc) to be relevant and to reach 10 wins per season. If they join a conference these are out the window.
Look what happened to Penn state and Nebraska once they joined the Big Ten and i think ND is worried this will happen to them.
