I actually agree and disagree… I think it’s part mechanics and part decision making
People talk about the tip pick being unlucky, it was picked even if it wasn’t tipped, Evans wasn’t close to being open.
He has 4 pick 6s in 118 passes…. I bet nd had maybe 4 pick 6s last 10 years combined over 4 thousand passes
Also, with his athleticism he never buys time like the top college qbs do… you don’t have to run a ton but the top qbs buy time for wrs to get open downfield
The throwing issues....
You don't know who I am but I can tell you I've a lot of experience playing and coaching...perhaps you do as well.
Decision making can be fixed. That will have to be done two ways. First of all we HAVE to throw the ball downfield. Chunk plays. Our passing game is way too easy to defend.
Teams will just sit on the 3-5 yard curl and sit route. I would defend our offense exactly like that. Why not.?! We don't make anyone pay by going over the top. They've no reason to not cheat up on the middle routes!!!!
Marshall sold out on that and look what happened.
Stanford...same...
Then look at UNC..
Why on earth they played our receivers 10 plus yards off is beyond me. Amazing some coach got paid for that decision.
Longer passes will back off the defense. Coaches can help him with this by calling longer plays.
The second thing is he himself isn't seeing beyond his target. In other words he locks in on a receiver and that's where it's going.
He's only looking off as a formality. He's not really checking down or going through progressions. You see it in his body language. He looks, then looks the other way and throws. He was always throwing there to begin with.
This nonsense he has to fix. Only he can do it.
That all said his accuracy isn't fixable by mechanics. He can get polished but he won't go from being inaccurate to accurate from mechanics.
Touch, like velocity, can be tweaked or polished but you either have a gun or not. You can't make someone throw 70 yards who is barely hitting 50 yards by mechanics. Possibly can eek out a few yards velocity with mechanics but that's it.
Accuracy.. again you either have it or not. It can be polished but you don't go from inaccurate throwing to threading the needle with mechanics.
If it were that simple everyone would be playing QB and be really good at it.
Eveyone would be pitching for a MLB team if mechanics were such a difference maker.
They can polish and tweak but that's it.
