Texas series?

Would ND join the SEC over the Big Ten if it came to that? With the inevitable further consolidation impending? Does the fear and loathing and antipathy run that deep?

I was told we would have trouble putting together a schedule in the future..... lol

No we don't need to join a conference. And no we won't have any trouble putting together a competitive schedule
I'm one of those people who has expressed concern about future schedules. I think every program in the nation is more than happy to play us, but they all want their OOC games to happen in the first 3 weeks of the season.

If it's true that we scheduled a series with Texas in '28 & '29, then I will be thrilled to admit I was wrong. We have no room for an early-season game against Texas in 2029 unless we plan to play them the week after Alabama. Here's hoping for ND vs Texas in October or November!

Amazing when common sense is applied to a discussion.

In the ever faster changing world of college football 2028 is a looooong time away.

The Purdue poster, I forget his handle, who has told us 200 times that Lincoln Riley and USC will soon drop Notre Dame from the schedule, said Notre Dame would not be able to schedule elite or quality teams in the future.

Other posters have said the same.

Got it.

There’s CFB, and there is Notre Dame Football. And Notre Dame, to a large degree, dictates to CFB what it wants to do in the future.

See above

I've seen this in a few places. If this is the case the ND schedule in 2028 & 2029 have some quality opponents. 2028 would have Texas, Miami, Clemson. 2029 would have Alabama, Texas, FSU.

Texas also has a stout OOC schedule they've lined up the next four years
2025 & 2026 home/home with Ohio State
2027 Michigan
2028 & 2029 Notre Dame.

I'm just worried about beating Army and USC. The other stuff is not that important right now.

Pretty awesome for football. But, I don't understand why Texas would do this unless the heads of these major programs know of some changes coming to the CFP moving forward.

If A&M had played a cupcake instead of ND to start the season, they would be top 5 or 6 right now with a chance to get in even if they lose to texas.

It’s good to try to separate yourselves from your conference. A big win out of conference is a resume builder. If you lose, you get some credit still and can still win the SEC. Georgia has a trump card by beating Clemson and probably beating Ga Tech. Ole Miss only played Wake Forest.

Not sure why either, but I love it! Getting quality games outside of the major conferences is going to be challenging. I think our future schedules are going to have a couple games like this before conference schedules kick in, and then we’ll be looking at Navy and our five ACC obligation games. Ideally, I would like to have one high caliber game each with the SEC and Big 10 and Big 12 before conference games begin.

With all of the two loss SEC teams they need a way to differentiate them. A major OOC win can do that. That is one reason why UGA is making the playoff if they don't lose, their blowout of Clemson.

On the flip side, a 2 loss (in the sec) lsu team only had a chance to make the CFP by winning conf championship due to losing to USC.

If you lose a non conference game, your ability to make it to the CFP drops drastically. Just like A&M, they need to get to or win SEC championship to make it in the CFP, while at least 2-3 teams that don't make sec championship still get in.

To my knowledge all of the SEC log jam teams have one good OOC game. UGA is an overwhelming favorite to playoff because they have a great win against one of the good ACC teams.

I would even guess the odds might be better if an SEC team scheduled 4 wins OOC, but the difference would be too slight to affect a program's scheduling philosophy. The big question now is whether the SEC goes to 9 conference games, which of course will not help its playoff outlook.

Alabama beat Wisconsin, Tennessee beat nc state, ole miss beat wake forest…. None of those are needle movers and 2 of those 3 are ahead of Georgia that has the best win ooc

Games have been finalized.

So much for ND not being able to schedule top tier teams. I love that ND is scheduling more games with the SEC. A&M, Arkansas, Alabama, Texas. They scheduled with Georgia and Texas in recent past.

Where's Quixote and Chasehisballs?
