He was so bad throwing vs A&M and even more so NIU… we all know this.

If he doesn’t light it up throughout the rest of the year how does freeman survive? It was his choice to go after and start him despite passing limitations when you have 3 other much better passers.

The film review of Leonard missing wide open downfield td passes vs niu is alarming. The 2nd and 1 play wasn’t even close to his worst play. There were two others where beaux blew by a flat footed defender 1-1. Simple read and throw for td. One of these was on his other pick play.

I hope Leonard balls out and we all see why the coaches are playing him, but if not, freeman is in a really bad spot due to poor decision making.

Leonard is playing like book without the short game passing accuracy. How are we at a point with our qb room where we have a poor man Ian book at qb?

I was never sold on Leonard when they brought him in. I thought he was a slight improvement over Hartman. I was wrong, he's worse than Hartman. This makes me question the coaches, specifically MF. Do they not look at the stats and reports on a QB? It seems like they have shiny object syndrome and go for the trendy pick without performing any due diligence

I disagree that Freeman is in a tough spot.

He's gotta simply make the call that is best for the team. Who gets us to the playoffs? Play that guy.

Who cares about NIL or money, it's a sunk cost at this point anyways.

Figure out who is the best QB, in the moment, and play that guy.

Go on a 10-game win streak, and punch a ticket to the playoffs......then no one cares about throwing away NIL
money or hurting feelings back in September.

Maybe Freeman has Golson5 in his ear. Someone needs to tell Freeman to stop taking his advice!!! 😂

I was hopeful he would be a better 2022 Leonard, and not the one that got worse in 2023… I was wrong

Nd did a lot of things wrong vs niu, but he single hand idly cost nd 10-20 points and set boy up for 3-6

He had that chance at half time vs niu and this week before Purdue … he’s a coward coach right now if Riley starts today

I don't know. Switching QBs is the popular and easy choice. Would a young QB do better with that OL? It really depends if Leornard can improve, and if he was dealing with an injury. If he continues this way we will see a switch; but I think he starts today. We may see a change mid game if he struggles again.

It’s fine that you want Leonard benched, but Freeman is a coward if he doesn’t do what you would do?

Hard disagree.

To me, that would be the case if he looks absolutely awful in the first half, not after NIU loss. Coward seems a bit much. I digress.
No other player on the team could perform so bad and continue starting … I was on the Riley hype train … he can’t read defenses and isn’t accurate when he doesn

Goodness gracious. Stop w the "coward" stuff. Such an overrated/over-used word on message boards. Especially by someone sitting at their computer using a fake/made-up/anonymous name.

Don't be that guy.

What freeman isn’t doing is literally the definition of coward if Riley starts today

Thank you for your comments. The old timers don’t seem to understand. As long as they get their tickets for the best seats, that’s all they care about

Leonard and freeman are the reason we lost to NIU. RL was terrible vs NIU and was not good vs Miami OH yesterday. I’m actually starting to believe he won’t play angelli for fear of having egg on his face when angelli plays well . Again you can’t give angelli 1 just 1 series and see how it goes. Nope , not a chance. The playoff dream ends next Saturday.

I hope you're wrong with your last sentence, but you are correct on everything else. Those making excuses and pointing to the OL. The OL has done fairly well in pass protection, and Angeli has shown that he can be mobile when needed. He's not Leonard mobile, but his arm and accuracy seem to be far superior to Leonard's.

Unfortunately, we are now 1/3 through the season and this is not a playoff caliber team, and it's mostly due to the lack of a passing game. What's the point of getting to the playoff on a cupcake schedule, only to get bounced in the first round? The NIU loss is now looking worse, and will probably look worse as the season progresses.

I hope the offense and specifically Riley straighten it out and start lighting it up, but with where we are in the season, i don't see it happening.

However, after the poor 1st quarter, he did play better after that yesterday, and his passing was better, too. So maybe he'll keep improving. And Miami's the defending MAC champions and has a decent defense.

They’re running such easy route concepts for Riley so he doesn’t have to read the defense much pre or post snap. We’re not putting pressure on teams secondary much.

Just look how easy it was to get PIs when throwing downfield .. or make a td

I don’t think we need to go to complex routes right now but we should be going downfield more often when the opposition is clearly in single high safety looks. Miami sold out against the run and it took nd too long to wear them down. Pass plays ere so open to be made first 1.5 quarters

I am afraid you are right about next week. Brohm is a very good coach. He will force Leonard to throw. It could get ugly. And if that happens freeman has to go

You think Louisville wins next week?

I don't necessarily disagree. This thing is far from perfect, and obviously not going how we all expected. The NIU loss will keep looking worse too.

If we can get a W next week, then I'll be more optimistic and will realistically start talking playoffs again (maybe I'm nuts).

This team needs the bye week. Players rest. Get some guys healthy. And maybe the staff then has extra time to recalibrate and adjust some things. We need that bye week badly.

After the bye, we got Stanford, Georgia Tech, Navy, then another bye.

We can get to that 2nd bye and be 7-1. Gotta win Saturday. We'll know a lot about where this season and maybe program is heading by Saturday night This is a HUGE game.

We've seen enough of Leonard to know what he can and can't do at this point. Im hoping Denbrock runs the hell out of him. If he gets hurt, fine. Bring in Steve and know that the offense can absolutely still be dynamic enough to beat everyone on our schedule.

That's the beauty of having someone like Angeli. Denbrock can red-line RL, and take full advantage of his ability to run. If he gets hurt, go to Angeli and the O doesn't miss a beat (maybe it even improves).

Freeman won't go anywhere. Notre Dame is all in on him. Two losses, three losses....won't matter They will circle the wagons at Notre Dame. Just like they did with Gerry Faust, Tyrone Willingham, Bob Davie and Charlie Weis when the jig was up. Now....Willingham was somewhat an exception...because when the barn was on fire...he went golfing. But, point being.....Notre Dame will bleed with the coach and the team.....as long as the blood transfusion ($$$) keeps coming in.

The jig was up with freeman vs FSU in 2021 … 9 months of prep had to be scrapped because he’s (not my opinion) stupid … it’s a known fact

I get you are upset with how this has played out so far, but MF is not stupid. He may not be ready for the position he's in, the jury is still out on that. The odds are definitely against him at this point, but regardless what any of us believe, he's not going anywhere for the next 2-3 years.

I do mike.
Especially if leonard continues to struggle throwing the football.

I really hope im wrong. I’d be the first to eat crow.

Quite possible

But he doesn’t know what he’s doing. All he’s good at is motivating and recruiting, he’s missing the mark with that now.

I really do think he’s at a junior level when it comes to Xs and Os

We're 3-1. Win at home Saturday and we're 4-1, and then we get a much-needed bye.

After the bye, we go Stanford, Ga Tech, Navy.

If we win Saturday, then this team is nicely set-up to be 7-1.

Then another bye. Then 4 winnable games. 11-1 is there for the taking.

If we win Saturday, how will you feel about the rest of the season?

A win Saturday puts us in a good spot to be playing usc to get into the playoffs. With the roster and coordinators nd has playoffs is what’s needed to be a successful season.

It’s how we win Saturday if we do, if it’s a muck it up 17-13 victory I’ll be happy in the moment but disappointed for this years full goals. That was to have a legit shot at winning a title.

If we win going away and our passing game comes alive. I’ll definitely reevaluate. Just don’t expect that vs possibly the best D we’ve played this year.
