In 2023, Angeli had more than twice as many TD passes and completed more down field passes of 20+ yards (and had fewer interceptions, a higher completion rate, and QB rating), but only passed the ball 1/4 of the amount of attempts Riley had.

The “garbage time” argument may not be valid here because 90% of the time a QB turns around and hands it off during garbage time. Not passing 20+ yards down the field. Apple to apples, both Duke and ND’s WR were horrendous last year as well, so I think that is a moot point as well. Freeman is in practice and he knows more than me, so I’m just going to see how this plays out, but thought those statistics were a bit interesting.

Great coaches make changes. Saban did it last year even though we all knew Buchner most likely wouldn't get it done when he was given the opportunity, I was still rooting for the kid. He got the hook during the game, and Milroe ended up taking back the QB1 role after Simpson was ineffective as well.

I would just go off his bowl performance which was great. He looked like a totally serviceable ND-level type QB, who easily could have been the starter, and we still could have had playoff aspirations without ever recruiting a transfer QB. Certainly with this schedule we could have. RL has more upside, and that's why we pursued him. If it's not working out, and you have someone as apparently highly competent and capable at least at a good solid journeyman level as SA, then you could easily make a QB switch if your hotshot transfer is struggling and quite possibly hurting the cause, and it's not like it's some momentous decision.

I wouldn't hesitate at all if I had any doubts. Assuming Angeli is in good trim and good spirits and ready to go.

If the coaches have to take away Leonard's running ability to protect him during a game, you're in a sense taking away the only redeeming thing that makes him a serviceable QB. I would feel much more comfortable with Angeli in that case if I am a coach. But the thing is I'm not a coach. So what do I know. I do feel Freeman should grow some balls and pull Leonard to light a fire under his ass the way Saban did that last year with Milroe.
