Per Saban, Alabama QB Bryce Young nearing 1 million in endorsements

I hope these kids limit the amount of stupid stuff they do with their money! It will be interesting to see if the taste of the big bucks will interfere or increase their drive to be better

Wait till one of these guys gets benched. No different than company’s throwing millions at unproven comedies in other sports. Remember Calloway threw millions at Ty Tryon.

Yes, this will be out of control.

First there was an arms race with coaches. Jackie Sherrill secured a 1.7 million six year contract in the late 70's with A&M which by many was considered a crazy amount. Coaches salaries (including assistants) have increased dramatically since then.

The facilities arms race. The major schools build really nice facilities. Every school wants to top their rivals facility.

And now the endorsements for the players. If you don't think this will get crazy out of control soon - we have a different opinion.

It is over; well maybe. Hmm a million in endorsements. Yep, this kid will be going to class; not. I am going to state the worse case scenario so others, of more insight, can point out where I am wrong. The top talent will pay no attention to any kind of academic considerations at all; zero. Alabama and like teams are now pro teams. Will ND go along; or will ND lead an effort to create a true amateur college football experience. I suppose the same
scenario exists for all college sports? What will team dynamics be like between players that are making millions and others who get nothing? Will coaches be under pressure to play kids with big money coming in? Will
professors be getting paid off; and so on. I suspect this won't be much of a change for some schools. I mean
what is the difference between flashy cars and hard cold cash?

Awesome news. Hope he walks out of Bama with much more. The system is finally working.

So do you hate your friends or coworkers that makes more than you? Do you look down on your friends or coworkers that make less than you?
Alot of these posts lamenting other peoples success stories are sad. You are projecting the worse onto these kids without a shred of proof. You are automatically assuming they would act in bad faith because they are finally getting paid what the market determined was a fair price for their Name & Likeness.

Let's think logically about these kids making 7 figure money on their NIL. Are kids more likely to stay in school & not jeopardize their 7 figure salaries by skipping class & doing things that could hurt their potential earnings? Answer the majority of kids will play by the rules because they are now more incentivized to do so.

Will there be bad actors & kids that blow it? Sure there has always been people that self destruct & destroy their futures. Its been that way since the beginning of time.

The real question that isnt being asked is why are so many posters on here upset that young adults now have the opportunity capitalize on their talents, to have the ability to invest their money, start charities, start businesses, help their families, pay taxes, have the financial security to not worry about a career ending injury or making it to sports leagues which 99% wont do.

The people you should feel bad for are the athletes that didnt get a chance at any of this because they played during an exploitive time where it was illegal to recieve their fair compensation for their talents.

I do not like any of this. At the same time I’m a strong believer in capitalism, so if its a win for America, so be it. Anything that pushes a needle away from socialism and woke culture is a good thing. 5 years ago I’d have quit watching cfb over this, but nowadays, this nation is at war from within. There are two sides, one that wants to preserve all that is decent and the foundations of what has made us the greatest nation in history, preserved democracy and capitalism and another that wants to rip it apart and burn it down with socialism, cancel culture, looting, and wokeness. A win for capitalism is a win for me, even though I hate it and will miss college being just college. Let freedom ring.

If 19-year-old Bryce Young who is basically a nothing in terms of football accomplishments is making millions before he even plays a complete game imagine what Arch Manning, the progeny of multiple Super Bowl winners, will make from his NIL!

The only question now is..........WILL SOME PLAYERS SOON BE MAKING MORE THAN COACHES?*
It does seem logical. CFB is rapidly turning into the Pro's and Pro players make more money than most Pro coaches.
Nick Saban - $9.3M
ED Ogeron - $8.7M
Dabo Swinney - $8.3M
Jimbo Fisher - $7.5M
Gus Malzahn - $6.9M

Therefore, it would be conceivable that with the right promotional company behind him Arch Manning could make over $10 million per year. And he just might start making that kind of money now while he is still a sophomore in HS!

* Salaries only. Does not include coaches endorsement money.

And so it goes in the land where an ex-junkie with no accomplishments in the arts can sell "kiddie-like paintings" for $500 grand a pop to anonymous buyers! LOL!

As has been said this is before he throws a single pass in College Football.

Just like the NFL throws huge amounts of money at players who are drafted.

I did not expect it to get this crazy this fast but so be it.

I do agree that when some of these bonus babies (who really are babies) flop its going to be interesting for those who have shilled out the big bucks.

In the main you missed the point of the post. And, I did invite others to point out the shortcomings in my
arguments, which you have partly done. And, I have no argument against folks making as much as they can
from any skills and abilities they possess. I do tend to object to real universities becoming professional minor leagues for owners of professional sport franchises.

I'm not convinced of that. Throw a million dollars in the laps of already entitled HS stars and guaranteed you will see some crash and burn. I understand these kids being exploited by the billion dollar business but this is ridiculous. IMHO

I hope ND jumps on board with this to stay competitive and not hold back the big donors and business boosters

I have no problem with college athletes making money off their own name, image or likeness. More power to them. I fear, however, that all of this could dramatically change the landscape of college football as we know it, and not for the better. I see an "arms race" of sorts developing--or perhaps more to the point, a "booster race"--where the rich are simply going to get richer. Big time boosters are going to funnel gobs of cash into the schools and programs they support, in the hope of luring recruits to attend those schools. Where previously those payments had to be made under the table, now they can be made out in the open. I suppose for those that believe in pure free market economics, there is nothing wrong with any of that. And heck, schools like Alabama are already pretty much getting every recruit they really want, so maybe the new NIL rules won't really change how things currently exist. One can argue that the new transfer portal rules will be just as impactful as the new NIL rules. I suppose in a couple of years we will see how things shake out with all of this. I am going to speculate that at some point the NCAA (or maybe colleges and universities themselves) will be looking at imposing some kind of regulations on NIL rights, much like the SEC is set up to regulate the stock market and protect investors. Of course, the NCAA has a pretty dismal enforcement record over the last couple of decades, so maybe it will require the establishment of a new committee or commission.

NIL & COMING EVENTS:

*Top athletes will be the ones getting the most NIL.

*The ones getting the most NIL will lose any or all interest in academics.

*Top athletes will gravitate to the MAX NIL and NOT to academics or tradition or conference or location or where their parents attended school.

*Athletes will transfer if they have an understanding (promise) that they will be receiving increased NIL at another school.

*NIL will begin in HS for the creme of the recruiting crop.

*The NIL WAR will spiral upwards month after month and year after year the same way that coaches salaries and grandiose facilities did only faster.

*Some of the best players will make more than their coaches.

*Multi-millionaires and billionaires will jump into the race to see who can out-do one another the same way they do with phallic shaped space rockets.

*In some instances college football players will retire early after completing their eligibility the same way that "The Boz" maximized his endorsements and retired early from the Pro's.

*Some players will have use of their own airplanes (perhaps jets), luxury houses, exotic cars, luxury apartments, etc.

*Some players will date and marry in some instances females in the Entertainment and Hollywood set because they will suddenly find themselves attractive and they can afford it.

*Hollywood will soon pick up on the power of the NIL leaders.

*Sports Agencies and Talent Agencies will be in bitter competition for top NIL athletes. (visions of the next Tom Brady or Burt Reynolds or Dwayne Johnson).

*Politicians will court the company of top NIL athletes.

Plenty more to come..........add your 2 cents! 😉

Your assumption are rooted in a prejudical world view that is out of touch with reality
Why would a player risk losing millions because he is kicked out of school for not attending class & you assume that obtaining a degree from college is not a goal for players. Again 99% of college athletes will not make it to the pros.

The top 10 recruiting classes for more than a decade have consisted of the same teams each year with some exceptions.

Athletes transfer for all sorts of reasons not just money.

You're mad that someone else's talent is rewarded by the free market more than what you think it should be.

Again without spending a penny of your money you are mad that kids might make more than you think they are worth.

Once again mad that the free market determined that a players likeness is worth more than his coaches salary

Mad at the way a rich person chooses to spends his money.

Worried that an athlete has gained the financial independence to do something else with his life besides entertaining you.

Players will have the ability to afford the finer things in life & that pisses you off.

Still mad you never got to date the hottest girl in school because she dated someone else she found more appealing.

The last one I have no idea what you are even trying to say you just need to add Hollywood to your rant.

😅😂🤣. LOL....Bwahahahahahahahhaha....your're seriously confused. Could care less what the athletes make or what you or anyone else thinks!

AND...........I do think as a result the only teams that will be winning NC's in the near future will be the ones with the MOST NIL $$$. JMHO. 😉

Well considering only Bama, Clemson, LSU & OSU have won titles the last decade its not like its going to destroy the deep parity of CFB

Florida state
That would take a miracle. FSU just doesn't have the athletes at this point in time. FSU is on the outside looking in at the playoff contenders and other elite teams. Going to be a very tough road to hoe for any 2nd tier teams to pull themselves up to playoff status.

I realize you are being tongue in cheek about parity in today's CFB game, but if this brave new world we are about to enter only widens the chasm between the haves and the have nots, how can that possibly help anything? Won't it just worsen the situation we now find ourselves in? In college basketball, a school can catch lightning in a bottle by getting a couple of good players to join its program. In CFB, on the other hand, a school isn't likely to drastically change the trajectory of its program without an elite coaching staff, top-rate facilities and several strong recruiting classes. If recruits are now going to gravitate toward the big programs because they see better financial opportunities there, at the end of the day is that going to help college football? Maybe a college football super league is going to finally happen. I don't pretend to have the answers to these questions, I am just wondering what we are getting ourselves into. I suppose we stand back and see what happens. It's already too late to convince the genie to get back into the bottle.

Just pointing out they won a title in the last decade. He didn't mention them

Point well taken. Jimbo Fisher is now with Tx A&M and they are knocking on the playoffs door. Meanwhile, Willy Taggart destroyed FSU football and had to be fired 1 1/2 years into a guaranteed contract. And now Mike Norvell is working night and day during a pandemic trying to bring the program back but it's a tremendous struggle as you might imagine. Changing the culture was/is his first chore and that just doesn't happen with a new coach. Lots of the dead wood players had to be let go with more to shake out.

I have now read a few of the NIL rules at various schools--I probably should have done that first--and maybe they won't create as big a problem as I first feared. One, compensation cannot be performance based, so paying a player for how many touchdowns he can go out and score is apparently a no no. Two, compensation may not be offered to prospective student athletes, so offering money to recruits is apparently a no no as well. Rather, compensation may only be offered to an athlete already enrolled at the school. So you have to get the recruit in the door before you can pay him/her. I suppose shady boosters will still find ways to skirt these rules, just as they do with the rules in place now, but perhaps it won't be as much of a free-for-all as I originally feared. We will see.

Has ND posted its NIL rules? If not, does anyone know when that will happen?

It is only Capitalism until these kids start taking a knee to show their disrespect for our country because of their false believes of Communistic
doctrines.

Wow, no words on this ridiculous amount of money for a kid in college. Is this how it’s supposed to be????
First of all this comes from Saban with no proof it’s true . It’s self serving to help him recruit ! I doubt that anyone is going to give a QB who has never played a game a million dollars just to endorse a product . Call me very skeptical !!!!

It will ruin college football for sure. But there’s no stopping it. It has to happen in a free society. Sucks, but the good old days of college football are fading.

It would be a sneaky, but savvy recruiting ploy. Would’ve surprise me either way.

It's likely multiple companies and Saban would be risking more by lying about it than if he said nothing.

Saban seemed to be doing all right recruiting pre NIL and I expect little to change now that it's in place.

Dislike him all you want but he's better than everyone else------deal with it.

The interesting dynamic is going to be the locker room on these teams when 3-4 guys are getting way more than their teammates and what effect that has on team chemistry.

Since this is all new ground nobody knows the answer to that.

Yahoo Sports is reporting QB commitment Ewers is contemplating skipping his senior year of high school and enrolling in tOSU. This will allow him to start making NLI money sooner. What's next? I'm for kids making money as they were taken advantage of for years but.......
