ND is 29-6 over the past 3 seasons. That is better than Michigan, Penn State, USC, Texas, FSU, Florida, LSU, UW, Mich St, Stanford aka. other perceived Power 5 super powers. The success ND has had on the field kept this team from going in the tank vs V Tech. As Brian Kelly noted vs V-Tech ND played tight, nervous football, because they are 18-21 kids who are not impervious to the garbage spewed on Social Media. But ND played HARD in that game and found a way to win a game they would have surely lost 1994-2016. This program is in B+ condition.

Need a reminder of Lou Holtz's last 3 seasons?

94- Lose to Michigan at home
94- Blown out at BC, after BC cost ND the title the year before.
94- Lose to BYU at home
94- Blown out by Colorado in the Fiesta Bowl
95- Lose to Northwestern at home
95- Blown out at Ohio State
96- Lose to Ohio State at home
96- Lose to Air Force at home
96- Blow a late lead vs a 6-6 USC team in Lou's last game at the Coliseum.

The criticisms of Ian Book is fair, the criticisms of the OL coaching is fair, the criticisms of the no show road performances at Miami and Michigan is fair. But to dismiss the work of Brian Kelly, Staff and Players and start over? Well, that is an extra, extra special kind of message board STUPID.

Clemson 36-2
Alabama 35-3
Ohio St 34-3
OU 32-5
UGA 32-5

Are the only Power 5 programs that have performed better than ND on the field over the past 3 years..

Now I know we have a few clowns with their lips affixed to P.J. Flecks backside today. But these are the same jokers who had their lips affixed to the rear ends of Mark D'Antoni & David Shaw just 4 years ago. Remember? Mich State beat OSU in the Big 10 Title Game and made the college football playoffs? David Shaw beat ND on a last second FG and beat Iowa in the Rose Bowl to win that now "Fictional Big Bowl". Both those cats are both sitting at 4-5 this year, after having had down years 7-6 & 8-5 the year before.

The whole Fleck shtick with the neck tie, crowd surfing and sprinting on to the field is cute when you are 9-0, mostly because you played a cotton soft schedule and beat a totally overrated Penn State team at home..When you lose a few games that Fleck routine will get old quick.

Brian Kelly and the ND program has issues:
1. Getting top notch QB play
2. Getting the OL to play to their potential
3. 4-12 on the road vs ranked opponents.

But I would rather have Brian Kelly try to deal with those issues, then return to the dumpster fire days with some unknown quantity at coach. And I bet you ole Jack Swarbrick feels the exact same way! Deal with it!

Here, here! Very well said.

It has been such a long climb to just get HERE (23 long long years of being embarrassed, humiliated at home and out of the conversation). I'd hate to hand the reins to an unproven O-coordinator or the hot-coach-of-the-moment (see Willingham, circa 2001.) If you ask the coaches of the teams on the list above they would say Kelly is one of the best in the biz -- hell, he has more wins than any of them! And, while everyone is now praising Orgeron, remember, Kelly beat him with an unproven 3* freshman QB two years ago.

Kelly is #1 in wins and #5 in winning percentage (of coaches with several years)

Schedule comparisons are meaningless. You don't play in a Power 5 conference and you don't play a conference championship game. Your record is inflated by a cupcake schedule. You are the second best college football team in Indiana right now.

Yeah, just don't see how people could argue with this post, but we know they will. Really well said and very organized, easy to follow each of your points. All in all just another solid post from you, keep it up!

You guys got your boat rowed by a team with one 4* in each of their last five classes (the rest 2 and 3* -- will you guys ever make it to the dance?) Shame... Another disappointing season in PA.

In most years we play more power 5 teams than most power five teams do. And feel free to check our SOS rating any given year.

Loser. All of those teams you cited in the first paragraph did not play in the playoff last year and won't this year except LSU and that is only because LSU had the balls to fire a mediocre coach just like Kelly and go with a coach who will win big games. Of course we know Jack has no balls or sense and that is why LSU will be playing for a NC and ND will be in a bowl game that means nothing.

So what. Big deal. How many national championships in that time frame? ZERO.

How many top 5 recruiting classes with the kind of players you need to get to the next level - especially on the offensive end? ZERO. Especially at quarterback.

All you do is kiss Kelly's ass. That must be your full-time job.

There should be more to show for that record as far as hardware, top flight offensive players and recruiting classes go. And you know it. All you do is come around after Notre Dame dispatches another team that it should beat, another cupcake on the schedule, and tout Kelly's genius. You're nowhere to be found when the Irish get beat down. Where were you when Michigan and Khaki pants beat the shit out of Notre Dame on the board and physically on the field? Again, in hiding.

Save your Kelly pep rally for the day he hoists the national championship trophy. If he does that in either of our lifetimes, I'll kiss your ass on the steps of the administration building. Until that time comes, quit blowing smoke up everyone's ass about how great this guy is. If he was that great, he would have been in the NFL by now. Or put a national championship trophy in the case.

You mean the ballsy coach who has never had a better record than 10-3? Who Kelly beat in a bowl game with his true freshman 3* QB? You mean the coach whose record isn't close to the record Kelly has compiled as a head coach? We'll see what happens...

So he's not a good coach and we havent improved because we haven't won a NC? Thats idiotic. I guess other than Saban Meyer and Dabo all these other coaches suck too

mid you are going to try and drag Lou into this in a disparaging way at least know your facts.

The fact and only fact regarding the games you cite—. Wadsworth. Lou had to put up with a moron AD after Rosenthal left. He was handcuffed and the strain made him quit in 96

Kelly will never win a nc but he can pass the baton a coach who can. Has to be perfect guy with personality and some untacky rah rah

He's 50-36 as a head coach.
Coach O has never had a 4-8 season in the last ten years at USC and LSU and just beat Bama on the road. Willing to bet his team wins the SEC championship and at least one playoff game. When Kelly equals that then pop off. It ain't happening.

Also got a school put on Probation and hauled in for smacking his wife

You are right. He went.

2005 Ole Miss 3–8
2006 Ole Miss 4–8
2007 Ole Miss 3–9

And then he was fired.

None of that matters apparently. The only thing that matters is that LSU Beat Alabama while Orgeron was head coach even though his Offensive coordinator should get the credit for how that offense has transformed.

Smh at these delusional posters who want to run Kelly off for the mythical savior who’s a) not coming here b) isn’t the savior anyway.

Ok in the last ten years at USC and LSU. When Kelly went 4-8 he had the job for 8 years and all the players were his.
The 4-8 season came in year 7, in year 8 he went 10-3, then 12-1 in year 9, and is 7-2 in year 10. Therefore, he had the job for 6 years when he had his only losing season in his head coaching career; making it 7 years on the job.

Very good post. Your best work ever.
Kelly also took the facilities to new levels.
Strength & conditioning.
He has improved the program tremendously.

I think Kelly is a notch below Lou but certainly different circumstances and eras.

I’d love to see Kelly get a championship.
He will need an all time great QB
and still more big d lineman, corners.

I would love to see it.
