Do any of you wish that Notre Dame could get a 13th game? Obviously it hasn’t hurt them when it comes to the CFP, but it would be fun to be able to schedule another team, especially if it was a team of note.

How would they do it? Well there is a rule that you can add a 13th game to your schedule if you play at Hawaii. Because traveling to Hawaii can be so costly, the NCAA allows you to schedule an extra home game to counter out the costs. So if Notre Dame could scheduled an away game with Hawaii every year then they could get in another game. Theoretically they could then also end their season every year on championship Saturday against BYU (also an independent).

A schedule could then have your 5 ACC teams, Navy, USC, Stanford, BYU, Hawaii and then 3 other teams. Maybe 1 cupcake and 2 other Power 5 teams.

what do y’all think?

Really dislike the idea of elevating Hawaii to annual rival, and equally dislike the wear and tear of traveling to Hawaii. West coast trips are hard enough with all the student obligations. Prefer a rule change that allows independents a thirteenth game, and in ND’s case, a tie in with the Five Conferences to play each conferences highest ranked team on a rotating basis, not playing in a conference championship game, every five years. For example, if it was the SEC turn, we would play Auburn this year. Or if it was the Bigs turn, we would play Penn St. This year, etc...

The Notre Dame invitational played same weekend as conference championship games at a neutral site against the best team not playing in a conference championship game. Now that could be interesting. Or heck just the next best two teams, Notre Dame or otherwise, to add some drama to the mix.

Beating Hawaii would not add much to an undefeated ND team while other teams are playing ranked conference champ opponents

I would only add Hawaii if we could start the season 2 weeks prior to our "first" and what would now be our second game. I do think playing Hawaii before school starts and having a bye week could be very beneficial.
1. Gives ND 13 games
2. Likely an easy win.
3. Helps with exposure in the region with recruiting.

That’s not the point. ND is going to schedule a few cupcakes regardless. If one is Hawaii then they have another game to schedule against a better team.
