yes we only won by 7 but we accomplished much and this is what they will likely evaluate

EACH TEAM has pluses and minuses

ND is undefeated (only 4 teams have done that)
ND beat a good schedule including traditional powers Michigan, Stanford, VaTech, FSU and USC. The Stanford, FSU AND VaTech games were slaughters.
ND also slauhtered a 9-3 ranked syracuse.
ND also beat 2 Big 5 Conference Division champions in Pitt and Northwestern.
ND has a top 10 defense and a balanced and at times explosive top 25 offense. M

The down side is we only beat a 5-7 USC team by 7 (at USC) and Pitt by 8 (at home). The early season Ball State and Vandy games were not glamorous but they are wins and in reality the winner was not really in doubt.

Oklahoma has 1 loss to ranked Texas and has a powerful offense but no defense.
Ohio State has 1 loss and has a powerful offense but no consistent defense. Ohio State beat Michigan and who else?

ND could possibly move up to #2 if Georgia beats Alabama. In that case Clemson would be #1, ND would be #2, Georgia would be #3 and Alabama would be #4.
