Nico Iamaleava likely done in CFB

Seems like a steal for UCLA. Citrus Bowl MVP, made the playoffs last year.
It's not a done deal yet it seems but probably will be. The price has gone down considerably and UCLA is absolutely desperate enough to find their footing in the Big 10 that they are willing to put up with the father for the right price.

From what I have read Nico's father raised concerns about UT's offense last year, and whether Heupel was going to improve the WR and OL position groups. And yet Nico is now transferring to UCLA, whose offense was a complete dumpster fire last year, one of the very worst in all of college football. The offense was so bad that several of the few good skill position players that UCLA had hit the portal, and their OC and OL coaches both got the boot. So when you hear Nico's father say it wasn't all about the money, well, that rings pretty hollow. Maybe Nico will feel more comfortable back home in southern California, but hard to see him flourishing in the situation he is walking into. I suppose he probably didn't have many options.

Exactly. The father anticipated a bidding war for his sons services and that didn't materialize. The father needs to take a hard look in the mirror in my opinion. He's stunting his sons growth as a player .

Although the advice he received was bad, Nico was a starting true freshman QB last season, and a good one. 6-5, maybe 6-6, runs really well, throws well. UCLA upgraded their qb room considerably.
Nico wasn't a true freshman last year. Runs okay, not great

It's funny but Nico would have been a perfect "get on the cheap" 5-star QB that ND probably could have nabbed and drastically upgraded the talent at QB, yet UCLA had a better/more attractive package to offer?

During Nico's recruitment ND offered him.

I just dont get why ND seems so lackadaisical about their talent acquisition. Where's the shrewd/cutthroat strategic maneuvering around the sport? Where is the leveraging of their insane resources to strong-arm the competition? Why is ND just never in play for these kind of guys?

It's frustrating.

ND DESPERATELY NEEDS STARS (high upside 1st team all american/heisman/first round NFL talent)

If he was worth having like you said why wouldnt programs you envy in the B1G & SEC get him on the cheap?

Fair point. My guess is a lot of the best teams in the BIG10 & SEC already got a #1 guy at QB or already at the max of their NIL budget or don't have as much need for a top-talent at QB like ND does because they got better internal options already.

A lot of these top-tier BIG10 & SEC teams have 5, 10, 15+ 5-star players on their roster already. ND has like 1 or 2 5-star players total. If I was the AD/GM/HC at Notre Dame I'd take a flier on Nico Iamaleava for that reason alone.

So risk team chemistry because some recruiting sites say you dont have enough 5 stars on your team.? Take a nap and wait for mom to cook you lunch. Your trolling today is terrible even by your own sh!tty standards.

Also, in regards to the discussion about Nico Iamaleava's negotiation tactics (or his fathers): I would be pissed too if i was Nico's dad/camp after the 10+ million guaranteed Michigan just gave a similar prospect in the '25 class to sign.

Chase still blabbering about the " stars" I'm assuming. The ignore feature is outstanding.

Cball wanted DJ ugalei last year for the same reason. His opinion is worthless.

A lot 🤣🤣🤣

Seeing a lot of articles/pundits saying Nico is likely done in college football. No school is going to pay what he wants and take a chance. Somewhat black balled by CFB. Seems like his agent royally screwed up. He definitely should have played another year and bet on himself and his performance
Heading to ucla

Nico to UCLA. Supposedly he got 2 million at Tennessee. He wanted 4 million. UCLA is giving him 1.75 million. California tax is sky high. Interesting

If I was Notre Dame I would have matched that offer at least and got him here on the depth chart to compete in the quarterback room for this season and/or next. $2m is chump change

Because you have no clue about about the type of culture that MF wants on this team

Tell me you don't know MF or ND without saying you don't know them

Funny how the father didn't like the offense at Tennessee but for 2 million more he could learn to like it.

I can't believe I'm saying this but Cam Newton actually had a good take on NIL. It's supposed to be money that makes college comfortable, not lifetime money.

It's supposed to be money that reflects their fair market value which is extremely high because of all the money in the sport.

I'm looking forward to the day the NIL gimmick is over and there's a system in place that allows colleges to simply bid on talent/pay signing bonuses to the prospects that they want

And if the player is good enough he'll get nil/marketing opportunities through businesses simply contacting his representation completely separate of the university

The #1 QB at UCLA all Spring left UCLA today.

Tough business.

Tough on who exactly?

The universities are wealthy beyond their wildest wet dreams from their football program

The players now get to cash in on their skills at least somewhat and have the freedom and flexibility to go to any school they want if they're not getting their needs met at their current school just like any coach can.

Everybodies winning I guess I don't see what the problem is

The universities can’t fund NIL !

If you don’t see what the problem is ……… you’re not blind, you’re deaf, dumb, and blind.

Perhaps the solution is for the scholarships to become contracts for a finite number of years.

That way, if a player wants to transfer, he has to buy out of his contract

That's why in my opinion collective bargaining is the only way to institute any sort of guardrails. The NCAA itself is powerless.
