Neutral site games are all about the money. The going rate for scheduling a game with an elite Power 5 team will pay between $3.5 million and $6 million each and there is talk of $7 million for scheduling a former National Champion.

Example: Last year when Florida played Michigan at Arlington, Texas they were each paid $6 million.

Advantages:
  • Substantial financial windfall for each program
  • National recognition and advertising
  • A boost for recruiting
  • A boost in strength of schedule
  • A win impacts playoff chances
Disadvantages:
  • Costs of traveling (financial and energy of the players)
  • Payout depends on your win record and the record of who you are playing.
  • Potential impact on home games unless scheduled as an away game.
Because of the huge payouts it looks like the number of neutral site games in the future will increase. Your thoughts on whether the advantages out weigh the disadvantages and if you like neutral site games.
