ND's SOS needs to improve for any chance

If nds SOS does not improve it won't matter what other teams do, we will not get in. I don't care if every other team has two losses. If we finish the season without a top 20 team victory there is no way the committee lets us in. The committee needs something they can hang their decision on and I fear we will not be able to give them one.

I know we have Stanford still but there is a lot of season left and Stanford has several challenging games. With one bad loss already it won't take much to knock them out of the top 20. If we beat them they will have two. Given their remaining games I find it more likely than not that they will drop another. If that happens I don't see how we get in, again, regardless of what the other teams do.

Am I crazy?

At this point there's nothing we can do about that, so there's no sense in fretting over it. Just win our next game. That we do have something to say about.

ND's overall SOS is and will be fine. Need to win out though as there looks to be only one team left in Stanford that will wow the committee.

If ND wins out they will be fine. Everyone in the top 10 or 15 plays each other and most teams will have 2-3 losses I think when its said and done. And even though they aren't great teams....by seasons end its a slight possibility we could see Navy and Temple creep into the top 25 and I think Stanford will be pretty high as well. Win out and everything will take care of itself.....need to blowout the weaker competition as well even though Kelly usually doesn't even when he can

We need to win out first. That'll be tough, especially winning @ Palo Alto in November. They're looking very strong this year; after they laid that egg in their first game, they've been very strong. Temple and Pitt are quietly having good seasons as well. Maybe one of them will keep winning and be ranked when we play them. Temple's #26 in the AP Poll right now.

Does it help us if Clemson goes 12-0 and wins the ACC title? Will that be a positive or will the board see us as the 2nd place finisher in the ACC?

If ND's record is 11-1, and there are no undefeated teams, they are getting in. 1 undefeated makes it harder. 2 undefeated teams makes it nearly impossible.

I am torn on this. Ideally we want the Acc not to get in at all. But given the collapse of gtech this is looking to be unlikely. Our best bet was this weekend with fsu playing Miami and Clemson playing gtech. Now that they have escaped those games hard to see how these guys lose two games.

IF the acc is to qualify yes we want it to be an undefeated Clemson.

But if the acc is in our chances get way harder. Have to assume sec is in no matter what. That leaves two spots for the winners of the big 10, big 12, pac 12, sec 2 and nd. We maybe able to take care of the pac 12 if someone just beats Utah, but big 12 (Baylor) and big 10 (OSU or UM) will be problematic I fear.

yes. no two loss team will get in ahead of a one loss notre dame. losses count too.

Agree echo.

I don't see anyone coming out of the SEC with a perfect record. One team will come out with one loss. That team is in. The winner of OSU-MSU is probably going to be in. That leaves two spots. I don't see TCU or Baylor going undefeated. If they have one loss, and it is worse than ND's loss, that makes the comparison interesting. Utah is not as good as people are making them out to be. They are going to lose a couple.

As far as SOS goes, Texas just beat Oklahoma. They may win 6. Clemson has a great chance of winning out or having one loss. That would give them a spot over ND, but it would also create a great "rematch" story line. Navy has a great chance of winning out. Stanford could very well have one loss coming into the ND game. Add the fact that Temple is undefeated, and Pitt has one loss at this point as well. I can't see USC winning less than 7 with all that talent, even with their current issues. In the end, ND's SOS will be fine.

Beat SC this weekend and take care of business up to Stanford (not easy, but this team can do it). Then beat a one loss Stanford. If ND does that, they will have likely beaten at least 3 conference champions, including the champion of the PAC - that should get them the attention needed to get in the playoff.

Not if Stanford is your lone quality win. One loss champs from the SEC, PAC, ACC, & Big Ten would probably all be higher ranked. You need some two loss P5 champions.

you're forgetting the losses. those will be considered just as much as victories, who did you lose to and when and where and how. if ohio st loses to va tech at home last year in November they don't sniff the playoff.

If ND goes 11-1 and their only loss is to a 13-0 Clemson, they'll get in if there are no other undefeated teams.

Don't rule out the possibility that the Big 10 champ has 1 loss. I have the feeling Michigan is going to screw that up for MSU-OSU.

The Pac 12 champ will have 1 loss.
The SEC champ will have 1 loss.

ND really NEEDS the Big 12 champ to have 1 loss if Clemson goes undefeated.

Problem is I think baylor might be the best team in College Football right now. I dont see them losing.

Our chances are so-so IMO. We need a year like 2007, and not a year like 2014. But all the team can do is win their own games. That would be a great accomplishment.
