Notre Dame's challenge against No. 13 Clemson, Wednesday night on the road — and the remaining games that follow — just got a little steeper.
Roughly an hour before tipoff between the Irish (12-15, 6-10 ACC) and the host Tigers (22-5, 14-2), the Irish men's basketball program announced that third-leading scorer Braeden Shrewsberry is out for the rest of the season.
Per, a pregame press release, on Feb. 19 during a 97-73 home loss to SMU game, the Irish sophomore guard and son of head coach Micah Shrewsberry suffered a lower abdomen strain during his 21-point performance. "After being evaluated by the Notre Dame athletic training staff and team doctors, Braeden Shrewsberry will be sidelined for the remainder of the season. However, the injury will not require surgery."
“I’m crushed that I can’t be out on the court right now during this final push of the regular season, but I plan on supporting my teammates in any way possible from the sideline,” Braeden Shrewsberry said. “I also want to take this time to thank the Notre Dame community for all the love and support this season. Go Irish.”
Shrewsberry was averaging a career-best 14.0 ppg on 41.3% shooting from the field. He was averaging 2.8 made threes per game (third in ACC) on 36.9 percent shooting from the arc (third in ACC).
