The great genius as proclaimed by chassball to win multiple titles at USC….is 15 yards away from the game winning FG, with 3 TOs ….and can’t get it done.

They run one play for 3 yards, and let the clock run down until 14 seconds…AT WHICH PSU CALLS A timeout (wtf was Franklin doing?!) …mind you, Riley still has 3 TOs left…

Faced with the need to get 11 more yards to get into FG range, the SC QB forces a pass, it’s high, and intercepted.

16-10 since starting 6-0 in 2022. He needs to beat the Irish or his seat is hot

Now we know why he would prefer not play ND. He needs a soft schedule to get it done. 😂

You said that about Jimbo.

Lincoln is 16-10 over last 26 games. The Heisman whisperer…and just threw up a game to James Franklin
And Notre Dame threw up a game to Northern Illinois.

Shit happens.

Tha F is this? I've never said anything about Lincoln Riley at USC winning national titles. This poster notoriously attributes all kinds of erroneous and false takes to my name. what is even the point? why are you so desperate to try to discredit me?

I thought USC was on its way to being an elite team. I was wrong. Riley is maybe not as good as I thought he was.

It's interesting in lieu of what I saw between Oregon and OSU. The Ducks seems like a complete team. Didn't give up any physicality to very good and physical OSU team.

USC is getting eclipsed by the Ducks as the West Coast team. I now think the Irish handle USC, as decent favorite.

You were riding his meat like you do Prime’s. Stop lying

To be fair, and I bring this up all the time for all posters...every one of us make predictions that are likely to be wrong. It's the nature of sports. I also though USC had what it takes.

There is no excuse being in probably the strongest HS triangle for football. Easy enough degrees. Great locale. Big money boosters. Riley has some serious explaining to do. Not acceptable at all.

I want USC to succeed for 2 reasons. 1) to have at least 1 great west coast team 2) to make ND better!

But Lincoln Riley had previous head coaching experience...how could he be struggling

How could his clock management be so bad with all that experience

He's not a first time head coach. How is this possible

LOL

When you recently lose to crappy MAC Northern Illinois at home, again, in South Bend, why certain posters poke fun at other head coaches confuses me.

Marcus Freeman has his own issues to deal with.

Because they play more than 1 game a season

Why you can only talk shit about MF and that game but not criticize other coaches as a ND fan confuses the hell out of me

Talk shit about MF but Chip is doing great at UCLA. Really like mike Norvell. Defend Lincoln Riley

Yes very confusing indeed

I thought both teams did some odd things down the stretch. On its second to last possession in regulation, Penn State seemed hellbent on getting down field fast enough to leave USC with more than enough time to win it, and then, as others have pointed out, USC squandered the clock and a great opportunity to win it late in regulation.

I'm with you 100% on that.

ND is not out of the woods here.

I'm alway a fan and will be optimistic...but I admit ND is fortunate to have a situation where the brand and soft schedule might make the real proof happen in the playoffs. I'll take that!

Just beat USC, as there is no excuse for losing any games to that point...and that looks very likely.

Franklin actually called the TO with 14 seconds left!!

And Riley is correct. USC is playing Ohio State and Oregon while ND is playing Army and Navy. Plus there is no way on God's Green Earth that USC's schedule is softer than ND's.

Every traditional or regional rival that Notre Dame has and has had is now in the B1G with the exception of Navy and Stanford. USC, MSU, Michigan, Purdue....hell, ..Add the occasional peer enemies like Penn State, Ohio State or Nebraska....This has gotten very eye opening. The prestige that props up the "independence" isn't what it used to be. Notre Dame's schedule doesn't keep up with the Joneses right now.

Schedule is fine. We aren't going to the Big and don't want to or need to

To a great extent, this is true. Back in the 1960s when I was at ND we played a primarily BIG !0 schedule. Nevertheless, Notre Dame's independent status has enabled it to develop a national following that will dissipate over time once it joins a conference (likely the BIG), Having been to a significant number of home and away games over the last several years, I have mainly next to subway alumni who are dedicated fans and regularly attend ND games. With such a following (and TV audience) Notre Dame will never be denied the opportunity to play for the NC even if it stays independent.

Nevertheless, Notre Dame's independent status has enabled it to develop a national following . . .
This is nonsense. ND's legacy enabled it to develop a national following. Independent status had little to do with it. Furthermore, five games dictated by the ACC is not independence.

You’re dead wrong !

Notre Dame’s independence is absolutely what caused them to have a National following and it enabled them to recruit nationally.

Notre Dame played from coast to coast, building a national fan base as they did.

Notre Dame’s independence also created student body’s from all over the country

Notre Dame became affiliated with the ACC ONLY 12 years ago, Notre Dame started playing football 137 years ago.

Let that sink in.

Well, ND played three Big 10 teams each year, plus USC and Navy. We filled out the rest of the 10-game schedule with teams like Pitt, Georgia Tech, Miami and the occasional SEC team (usually LSU).

So just to get this straight..we aren’t allowed to criticize other coaches because MF lost to NIU?

Please confirm

I think it’s time to just STFU with the NIU crap. Game sucked, we played terribly. GOT IT. Move the hell on already

Great discussion on SOS and staying independent. I'm also in the independent camp. But ND is going to need creativity to keep the SOS high, which will be challenging given the emerging super conferences.

Even more interesting times.

Notre Dame doesn’t want to be in the Big 10. Ever.

Thank God.

Notre Dame can remain independent as long as they remain highly competitive.

Bull shit. You relentlessly pointed to USC’s hiring of Lincoln as a major move/investment that ND was unwillingly to take. Just like every post, “this is the move USC is taking while ND gets left in the dust” OWN UP

What has changed is the super conferences. There are two. That did not used to be the case when diversity existed. Notre Dame is going to be squeezed by the power of these two conferences. JMO.
