Just how good is Indiana? I think they're for real, and I think they have an excellent chance to beat OSU and win the Big 10. Thoughts?

Good teams win convincingly. They’re pretty much beating up everyone though their schedule is soft. They’ll likely finish 11-1 with a loss to OSU.

Does 11-1 Indiana get in over 10-2 ND with a loss to USC? Let’s say Indiana loses to OSU by 16 points.

I think they'll beat Michigan. And then they're in. Unless they lose in the Big Ten CCG and it's held against them. And they go 11-2. But they'll still probably get in.

Indiana is very very good. I’ve been saying it all year. They can beat anybody

But they keep crushing teams. They blew out MSU and Nebraska.

It'll be interesting to see if they can play with Ohio State next week.
Michigan St. and Nebraska are below average teams.

The Indiana schedule is simply soft.

They have not beaten anyone that’s any good.

True its soft but they are winning convincingly. Their next two games will tell us how good they are. I think they beat Michigan and lose to the Bucknuts in the shoe. Hope Im wrong, would love to see IU win out. What a great story line that would be. IU looks legit

Michigan isn’t anywhere near the top 25.

Please tell me Indiana’s signature win.

I think IU wins out in the regular season and loses to Oregon in the conference title game. I base that on match ups. That sets up a conundrum for the selection committee...meaning 4 BIG teams will be in the conversation: OSU, Oregon, PSU and IU. There are going to be several 2 loss teams ranked in the top 12 by this selection committee, imo. That is going to create more controversy than ever...and will force some changes after this season in selection criteria. Would an IU losing in the title game trump a 1 loss PSU? a 2 loss OSU (or a 2 loss GA or LSU) for example? Not that simple to answer.

Are you saying Indiana wins at Ohio St.?

If this is correct, we disagree.

I base that on matchups.

I see reading comprehension isn't your strong point. They don't have one yet, now go back and reread my post. Maybe it will sink in a second time.

You clearly stated “…their next two games will tell us how good they are…”

Michigan at Indiana won’t tell us anything. Nothing. Michigan is a four loss average football team.

Indiana at Ohio St. will.

ND does NOT get in at 10-2. Guaranteed.

I think thats true. SOS would be the eliminator with 2 losses. TAMU was the best win....and they were embarrassed by an unranked South Carolina team that beat them worse than ND did. Keep in mind TAMU had the "lost the first game" excuse.

They beat Nebraska a lot worse than Ohio State did. And they also handled a Washington team that beat both Michigan and USC.

They could be in the top 10 in the first playoff rankings Tuesday.

Too premature to say not. Too much football to be played. 10-2 puts them on the bubble for sure. That said not sure who beats them down the stretch. The matchups are very favorable for ND.
The only ranked team on ND's schedule remaining is Army. This water's down those remaining wins. A loss to any of them is an eliminator, imo. Army is ranked, but not Top 12. ND's biggest adversaries in selection (if ND has two losses) are other 2 loss teams who have been ranked in the Top 10 longer than ND, and with stronger SOS...and this 12 team bracket will be littered with 2 loss teams.

Army, like Navy before them, has done nothing to be ranked in the top 25.

Texas A&M's loss to South Carolina is a bit like ours to Northern Illinois because occurred to teams coming off big wins. Totally different types of losses, of course, with ND stumbling around at home with a chance to win it late, whereas, A&M got ambushed in a big road game at night where all the stops were pulled out. And South Carolina looked a lot better than a barely .500 team to me. Their QB was bouncing off tacklers like a pinball.

A 10-2 ND team if they lost to a couple of good teams( FL St and Clemson last year) then absolutely they would be in the conversation. That N.IL loss was a killer for any chance to get in with a 10-2 record. Will not happen, ND must finish 11-1 and they are in guaranteed. Simple as that.

I think it’s ill advised to speak in absolutes. It’s definitely possible. PSU might lose twice more and that would help. Just look at the top 25 and see who plays who.
If Notre Dame loses at 5 loss USC, coupled with the loss to crappy Northern Illinois in South Bend, IMO a playoff berth is hard to imagine.

There is no comparison between N.ILL and SC. N.IL is a below average football team

That is a fair statement. SCe is a totally good team, very visibly so. Would we beat them, having to play on the road, with the crowd all jacked up and whole atmosphere and the cocks all amped up to take down fancy-pants ND who thinks they're so smart? I don't know, that would be a challenge, that would be a very big game. Effectively no better or worse than beating A&M at Kyle Field. We would beat NIU easily like twenty times in a row. Even at their little rinky dink stadium.

So indeed there is no comparison.

A loss to Michigan would tell us a great deal. I haven’t seen Indiana play yet, and looking forward to the Michigan game. Michigan is clearly not a top 25 team, but they have some talent and they play hard. An Indiana victory would validate them as a legitimate contender. A loss will validate their exceptionally soft schedule thus far.

4 SEC teams
4 Big 10
1 Big 12
1 ACC
1 G 5
Notre Dame

That reasonably could happen if ND is 10-2.

Exactly, sjb75 not too smart. I have watched numerous IU games and they look pretty damn good to me regardless of their mediocre schedule so far.
