Trevor Janicke redirected a third-period Jake Boltmann shot for a Notre Dame goal as the 11th-ranked Irish went on to hold on for a 3-2 victory over Wisconsin, Sunday night in a Big Ten hockey matchup at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis.
The Irish (21-9-0, 13-7-0) ended up with a weekend split in a series delayed two days by COVID-19 protocols.
Janicke’s goal had to survive a video review to check if his stick was above the crossbar. Boltmann's shot was rising. Janicke tipped it down for a 3-1 Irish lead with 12:17 left.
Wisconsin (9-20-3, 6-15-1) pulled within a goal on Zack Urdahl’s goal five minutes later, but the Badgers couldn’t nudge the game into overtime.
Jesse Lansdell and Hunter Strand also scored goals for Notre Dame. Irish goalie Matthew Galajda made 30 saves.
The Irish are on the road this weekend, Friday and Saturday, at Michigan State.
