ROSEMONT, Ill. – Junior forward Max Ellis has been named a 2021-22 All-Big Ten Second Team selection, with graduate student goaltender Matthew Galajda, senior defenseman Spencer Stastney and sophomore forward Landon Slaggert earning All-Big Ten Honorable Mention accolades.
The 2021-22 All-Big Ten Hockey Team and Individual Award winners were selected by a vote of the Big Ten head coaches and a media voting panel.
About Ellis
Ellis has had a breakout season offensively for the Irish, scoring a team-high 16 goals and adding 12 assists for 28 points. Ellis’ 28 points also lead the team, while his 12 assists. A Hobey Baker Award nominee, Ellis earned Big Ten First Star of the Week honors on Nov. 23 after helping lead the Irish to a weekend sweep at then top-ranked Michigan. In Notre Dame’s game two overtime win in that series Ellis posted the first hat trick of his career, capped by scoring the overtime game-winning goal, marking the first visiting player to record a hat trick at Yost Ice Arena in 15 years (2006).
About Galajda
Galajda, a graduate transfer from Cornell and 2018 CCM/AHCA First Team All-American (East), is 17-7-0 on the season with a 1.98 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage. Both his goals-against average and save percentage rank eighth nationally and he has two shutouts on the season. He posted a career-high 40 saves in Notre Dame’s 8-2 win over Boston College on Jan. 19. A Hobey Baker award nominee, he was twice named the Big Ten’s Second Star of the Week (Feb. 22 & March 1) and twice earned Third Star of the Week honors (Nov. 16 & Oct. 26). Galajda, who is 77-22-9, ranks 21st in NCAA history with 77 career wins and is also tied for third in NCAA history with 21 career shutouts.
About Stastney
A fifth round selection (131st overall) by the Nashville Predators in the 2018 NHL Draft, Stastney is tied as Notre Dame’s second leading scorer with a career-high 27 points on seven goals and 20 assists. Stastney is averaging 0.54 assists per game, which ranks ninth in the Big Ten. In Notre Dame’s 21 games since the Irish returned from break on Jan. 1, he has five goals and 13 assists for 18 points, notching at least one point in 14 of the 21 games. He is the only defenseman in the country with multiple shorthanded goals this season (2). Stastney has also blocked 67 shots, which ranks third in the Big Ten. A 2022 Senior Class Award finalist, he was also named the Big Ten’s Third Star of the Week on Feb. 1.
About Landon Slaggert
Landon Slaggert has skated in 38 games this season, notching 11 goals and adding 13 assists for 24 points. His 11 goals are tied for third on the team, while his 24 points are tied for fifth. A member of the U.S. National Junior Team for a second consecutive season before the event was postponed due to Covid-19 protocols. A third round pick (79th overall) by Chicago in the 2020 NHL Draft, Slaggert also ranks tied for second on the team with three game-winning goals, including the overtime winner against Minnesota (Jan. 29).
