Went to the game yesterday, some thoughts:

Giving Freeman a pass since it was his first time vs. Navy. In 1988 at Old Memorial Stadium a few miles north from yesterday's game, #1 ND was up 10-7 with Navy driving late. That was a 3 win Navy team. Navy's a weird matchup - always has been.

I try and attend at least one game a year. ND didn't look as crisp as they did under Kelly. Hard to detail, but there just seems to be a lack of urgency compared to Kelly teams. Kelly teams looked crisp and efficient. Really want Freeman to do well, but, they've got a ways to go....

Talent is not an issue. ND's size made Navy look like a JV team. Never seen such a discrepancy in size. Mayer, Foskey, #83 Thomas, Alt, and others on the lines just tower over Navy in size and strength.

ND fanbase is so strong. Probably 75-80 percent ND fans yesterday. The couple in front of us did Jameson shots after every ND TD. NFL stadiums for college games, yuck.....atmosphere is not nearly the same.

No it is not -- he faced them 3 times as a DC -- twice at Cincinnati -- (1st time gave up 569 rushing yards), and once at ND, and now once as a HC. Same with Golden -- he faced GT many times, and also went against Navy.

And it wasn’t Golden’s first time either. I think Al faced the triple option more then Freeman has.
