Went to the game yesterday, some thoughts:
Giving Freeman a pass since it was his first time vs. Navy. In 1988 at Old Memorial Stadium a few miles north from yesterday's game, #1 ND was up 10-7 with Navy driving late. That was a 3 win Navy team. Navy's a weird matchup - always has been.
I try and attend at least one game a year. ND didn't look as crisp as they did under Kelly. Hard to detail, but there just seems to be a lack of urgency compared to Kelly teams. Kelly teams looked crisp and efficient. Really want Freeman to do well, but, they've got a ways to go....
Talent is not an issue. ND's size made Navy look like a JV team. Never seen such a discrepancy in size. Mayer, Foskey, #83 Thomas, Alt, and others on the lines just tower over Navy in size and strength.
ND fanbase is so strong. Probably 75-80 percent ND fans yesterday. The couple in front of us did Jameson shots after every ND TD. NFL stadiums for college games, yuck.....atmosphere is not nearly the same.
