You forget how loaded ND was back then. Those teams were almost always 10 deep. We also played a great schedule. But except for that final four, our post-season appearances were usually disappointing.

One mistake: They say we beat Al McGuire's Marquette team that season, but McGuire retired after his team won the NC in 1977. The coach in 77-78 was Hank Raymonds, who had been McGuire's long-time assistant.

My greatest memory of Digger was his team beating UCLA and stopping the streak. It was the best game I have ever seen.
