If he is willing to sit for 3 seasons, sure, he will stay.Is Minchey willing to be #2?
Is there a chance he transfers if he doesn't win the job?
If he gets an enticing offer and hits the portal....we get thin at QB quickly.
He won it over him in 25.If he is willing to sit for 3 seasons, sure, he will stay.
After 18 months in the football program, Minchey could not win the backup QB job in 2024 over Steve Angeli, so who knows.
This is what the transfer portal is for. Our backups can leave, we can always get more backups.Thought sure it was going to Minchey as third man out.
Not sure how I feel about this.
Experience means something.

There is a reason Steve Angeli went in against Penn State, under the brightest of lights with a trip to the title game on the line, at a time when Kenny Minchey had been in the program for 18 months."Experience means something"
Yes, experience means something, and outside of Angeli's few guest appearances (The Orange Bowl was a good one though) -- ND is really low on experience -- even if Angeli stays.
It's a message board. A free and anonymous one at that. People talk hypotheticals here all day long."If he gets an enticing offer and hits the portal....we get thin at QB quickly"
If "If's and But's" were candy and nuts -- everyday would be XMAS -- players and coaches cannot not worry about IF's and BUT's --
The players know now who the best QB is. So does the coaching staff. The next 4 months won’t change their mind. It's a message board. A free and anonymous one at that. People talk hypotheticals here all day long.
It's a legitimate scenario, and we could end up in a situation where we're 1 hit away from Hebert being the QB vs TAMU.
I couldn't agree more. The players know now who the best QB is. So does the coaching staff. The next 4 months won’t change their mind.
Rock Solid 4th year guys, as you inferred, want to play. And that is what Steve will go and do. I wish him well.I couldn't agree more.
Most original post wasn't about Angeli. He isn't the best QB (wasn't).
My point is that we're 1 or 2 events away from being thin in the QB room.
But I guess "this" is what college football has become. Gone are likely the days of having a rock solid 4th or 5th year trusted player as the backup. If guys aren't going to start, they just hit the portal.
If someone calls Minchey and gives him a starting job (not terribly unrealistic), he may leave. Then the QB room is Carr and Hebert.
It's no one's fault. It's just what college football has become.
Personally, I think experience is overrated. How many times have we seen a starting QB lose his job and not get it back? Crist, Rees, Golson, Zaire, Wimbush, Buchner, Pyne.Thought sure it was going to Minchey as third man out.
Not sure how I feel about this.
Experience means something.
Odd.Personally, I think experience is overrated. How many times have we seen a starting QB lose his job and not get it back? Crist, Rees, Golson, Zaire, Wimbush, Buchner, Pyne.
Point is, no one knows how the QB position will play out. A lot can happen between now, game 1, and playoff time.
Our current head coach cares more about talent than experienceOdd.

I have zero problem with CJ Carr starting at Miami. None.I know this is counter to all we do here, but I'm inclined to trust the coaches, guys who have been doing what they are doing for 20-30 years, who spend tons of quality time with these kids (on the field and off), who, in many cases have watched them play and develop since high school. We all love Steve, just rewatched that Penn State series and man, he was good. But CJ is the highest rated all-around QB we've had in a long time and everyone (mods included) seems to think he is the future. BUT... he was hurt last year, QBs get hurt or underperform, and that is why a quality backup (remember Tommy Rees?) is essential... Kenny recently has shown himself to be a leader who has skills that are different than CJ.
I have a feeling we'll see both this season -- remember Quinn and Clausen's first two years were not great, Golson's Sophomore year got us to 12-0 (with a very good defense and a little Tommy Rees.)
CJ is a Sophomore.
In all honesty, you are usually a very confused individualI have zero problem with CJ Carr starting at Miami. None.
Kenny Minchey holding a clipboard and clapping for the team, while Steve Angeli was asked to play multiple meaningful snaps against Penn State with a title game on the line, just three months ago, is a tad confusing to me.
This is true and exactly why top percentile blue chip recruits are more valuable than ever and why its silly to me that ND is still recruiting anything other than Top 250 overall prospects from HS.This is what the transfer portal is for. Our backups can leave, we can always get more backups.
Why does Ohio State have the 742nd ranked player in this class? You should talk to Ryan Day about your philosophyThis is true and exactly why top percentile blue chip recruits are more valuable than ever and why its silly to me that ND is still recruiting anything other than Top 250 overall prospects from HS.
99% of recruiting resources should be going to 5 star and 4.5 star recruits ... if you miss on these guys you patch up the roster/position in the transfer portal.
If a guy is an elite talent on your board--despite being a low-rated recruit--you obviously take him. But you dont go around trying to fight other schools for garden variety 3 & low 4 star talent. Its a waste of time/resources.Why does Ohio State have the 742nd ranked player in this class? You should talk to Ryan Day about your philosophy

You are relentless, no shame, I'll give you that. 😂This is true and exactly why top percentile blue chip recruits are more valuable than ever and why its silly to me that ND is still recruiting anything other than Top 250 overall prospects from HS.
99% of recruiting resources should be going to 5 star and 4.5 star recruits ... if you miss on these guys this cycle you patch up the roster/position in the transfer portal to hold the line for a season and continue swinging for the fences on the recruiting trail going forward for the best prospects in the country.
So it's okay when other teams do it, but you say no for ND to do it? Got itIf a guy is an elite talent on your board--despite being a low-rated recruit--you obviously take him. But you dont go around trying to fight other schools for garden variety 3 & low 4 star talent. Its a waste of time/resources.
The difference here is that OSU basically has their picking and choosing of the top 5 talent in the country at each position right now. So when they take some low rated guys to round out their top 3/elite recruiting class, it makes sense. Those lower rated guys are probably viewed way higher on the internal big board of their program. So it's okay when other teams do it, but you say no for ND to do it? Got it
When one of your nonsense ideas get destroyed you just pick up and move it to another one until that gets destroyed. You have to respect your commitment to just being wrong so consistentlyThe difference here is that OSU basically has their picking and choosing of the top 5 talent in the country at each position right now. The bulk of NDs classes are 3 & 4 star talent and they dont even touch consensus 5-star talent (which is the safest talent to invest in because those top guys are universally viewed as DOGS). Remember the higher the rated the prospect the greater the standard deviation/separation between prospects.
Those 5-star guys are monsters worth probably about 3 times what they are currently being offered in NIL right now. An economist on staff could figure out the fair market value for talent so that you can "bid" for them accordingly.
Sadly I don't think any of this is even on NDs radar right now.
So you're confused that the depth chart can change in 3 months? What's confusing about it? Happens all the time.I have zero problem with CJ Carr starting at Miami. None.

The depth chart changed because, IMO, it is the easiest decision for Marcus Freeman. It had nothing to do with who the better backup QB is.So you're confused that the depth chart can change in 3 months? What's confusing about it? Happens all the time.
Dude, that's because ND has to shop down a different aisle. They want good program fits, in terms of their personality and character. Not only is that a practical necessity, just being a regular 'student athlete' at ND, it's really, really good for the football program, for the esprit de corps and the team identity. Like 70% of the roster at LSU, they just couldn't make it at ND. It just wouldn't work. In the classroom or in the football program. ND has to recruit RKGs. They have to, and they get as many blue chippers from among that category as they can. If anything their goal and their hope is to find even better RKGs, to corner the market on RKGs, to out-Stanford Stanford, and there's going to be a lot of 4 and 3 star guys in that number. And that's just the way it is.The difference here is that OSU basically has their picking and choosing of the top 5 talent in the country at each position right now. Finally someone has brought up the fact that Angeli is getting his ND degree. Start to forty year advantage- check. I bet Minchey stays to get his too. Then can transfer. The depth chart changed because, IMO, it is the easiest decision for Marcus Freeman. It had nothing to do with who the better backup QB is.
Steve Angeli graduates in 4 weeks with two seasons to play, and Angeli moving on is far easier than Kenny Minchey, who has not graduated, will not graduate for at least a year, and still has three seasons to play.
With a title game on the line against Penn State three months ago, Steve Angeli went in over Kenny Minchey for a reason. Because he gave the team the best chance to succeed.

1 hit if Minchey happens to leave. It's not out of the question that Minchey gets a P5 offer to start and takes it. Then we're down to Carr and Hebert."It's a legitimate scenario, and we could end up in a situation where we're 1 hit away from Hebert being the QB vs TAMU"
We could be -- then again -- Carr (or Minchey) could play all 12 games, therefore, leaving Angeli on the bench (seeking mop up time) when he could have gone somewhere and played. And Herbert is 2 hits away from that scenario ...
Kenny Minchey IMO will stay to graduate. Then leave with 2 seasons to play like Steve Angeli.1 hit if Minchey happens to leave. It's not out of the question that Minchey gets a P5 offer to start and takes it. Then we're down to Carr and Hebert.
I don't blame anyone for it. It's no one's fault. This is just what CFB has become.
I agree. That's the likeliest outcome. You're right.Kenny Minchey IMO will stay to graduate. Then leave with 2 seasons to play like Steve Angeli.
