BOOM...New Commit

this is strange. cause it caught some of the writers on ND sites by surprise and he said he wants to take official visits to other schools to make sure he made the right decision. Dont blame a kid for doing that, but why commit before doing that?

He just tweeted out he has closed his recruitment & is now taking no more visits except his planned visit to ND...

Something must have went down.

So, the discussion centers around a kid described as ‘not fast’ and ‘not big’ and a kid with a composite rating over .91.

What is confusing about that?

if it's not academics or something character-wise, that's kinda BS to yank it after the fact... if a coach screwed up, too bad... show some integrity...

Well, the inside story is this was not a commitable offer; that there was no communication with this kid for months leading up to his decision; that staff were on vacation when he contacted Alexander, who was on vacation himself; that Alexander was caught off guard and made a mistake in accepting his commitment. I believe Alexander has in fact stepped up and accepted responsibility for the mistake of accepting the commitment and for lack of communication with others in the program. ND blew it, but glad this was quickly resolved so the kid can continue his recruitment elsewhere.

Really? ... a non-committable offer is one thing. But when the prospect and his future position coach/recruiter both treat it as a committable offer, as was the case here, please don't spin this as getting caught off guard and making an innocent mistake. According to the published statement of the recruit, Alexander went so far as to speak with the parents and congratulate them as well ... as is customary. That's "all in" not "off guard." Then "all out" once Kelly found out.

And people wonder why kids hang schools out to dry with their own flips.

There’s more to it.
Alexander is definitely in the wrong here though.

The staff hadn’t even spoken to him about a spot since January & it turns out 3 of his top 4 (also Ohio State & Arkansas) he recentjy listed also have pulled their offer from him.

I feel bad for the kid but ND did contact him immediately once the staff found out & didn’t string him along just in case. (Some times schools will use the commitment as a backup plan then pull the offer late if they get someone else better).

I will bet almost anything that espn will jump all over this tonight and dish out negativity and over blow this.

Who said or implied an innocent mistake Alexander blew it pure and simple, and ND looks bad as a result. Yes, there were strange mitigating circumstances that led to the screw up, but these don't excuse the fact that Alexander had no business accepting the commitment when he did. This is not a case of a team stringing a recruit along in hopes of tying him up until someone better comes along, and I'm glad they corrected the situation as quickly as they did, etc... Regardless, Alexander made a huge mistake and the university deservedly looks bad as a result.
