Blanchard passes

Is the GM like a glorified or de facto recruiting coordinator, like Vinny Cerrato was for Holtz, when we had a whole bunch of elite classes in a row? Chief salesman basically, or however you'd describe that. And throw in NIL related shit into the mix, even though I would think your GM would not set NIL policy and whatnot for the program, as that would be so crucial that obviously MF or the HC would definitely want final say on that. Or even more than final say, to be as involved as he wanted to, to the point of the HC is one who sets all NIL policy, and not a GM, and he takes his marching orders from the HC.

And it's not so much scouting either, and the coaches are still heavily involved in the scouting and setting up the draft boards if you will, for players that get offers and who gets priority and all that, and the coaches decide on that. Or maybe the GM and his 'team' do the bulk of the scouting and film work. I was just thinking it was mainly chief salesman, so the coaches don't have to deal with that shit anywhere near as much.

So he turned down the ND job to avoid a divorce. Wow. I think he should have just taken it anyway, called his wife's bluff. But you have to think about the kids, they don't want to grow up in a broken home. Can't risk it. I don't see how Lubbock is better than S Bend, that seems like a wash to me. I guess it doesn't snow as much.

In addition to the family considerations, there may have been issues with his level of control - he’s a lot like a NFL GM with TT, not sure MF was willing to go that far.

Hope we kick the tires with Lake Dawson…

Texas born. Texas raised, 5 really young kids. The dude’s entire family lives in Texas.

Why would you conclude that the rejection was focused on divorce?

The displacement and relocation of five children to a new environment is a very serious and traumatic event in the lives of those children

He made his decision and we should respect it

Can you ever just STFU, are you that desperate for attention? For F's sake, I was just goofing off, you imbecile. I don't even know who this dumb motherfcker is, nor does anyone else on this message board. He's just some stranger, he's a name. He doesn't have anything to do with ND at all. There's no need for anyone at all in the ND fan universe to give a F about his personal life. He didn't take the job, who the F knows why. Whether you 'respect' something or not has no existence in the known universe. It's just you babbling like a creep.

Texas Tech = Small Timey
I think it's more about being comfortable and happy. Look at Larry Kehres. No doubt in my mind that he would have found tremendous success at the highest level of college football and he had many, many opportunities over the years to make that move. It just wasn't something he aspired to and was perfectly content with his niche at Mount Union. He surely could have made much more money but that's not the carrot for everyone. I understand it is for many.

Not to Texas born and Texas raised James Blanchard and his wife.

And my guess is that whatever $$$$ Notre Dame offered, Blanchard’s agent leveraged that into a raise to be among the highest paid GM’s in CFB.

Yeah, yeah.

So why don't you tell us more about this Blanchard fellow's marital problems. Thinks it's going to survive, now that he's staying Lubbock? You guys sound like a bunch of housewives anyway....

If there’s no reason to give a **** about this guy, why did you post about him ?

You’re a hypocrite !

You were the idiot who claimed that his decision was influenced by the prospect of divorce

I merely pointed out that you were the idiot that jumped to a rash and uninformed opinion absent the facts, which isn’t unusual for you.

You misspoke, so own it instead of trying to pretend that you were goofing off.

I’m just pointed out that you were a fool for jumping to conclusions without the facts

I just don't know how you can keep this up. You're so well-spoken, and intelligent and educated, and you have this genteel little pose that you never, ever waver from, even though you're a proven troll, and you don't mean any of it. It's all just your internet alter ego. And now you've got your bold, oversized text thing going, to heighten the effect. It's like something out of a horror novel or something. Like from Roald Dahl perhaps.

I’ve posted in bold text from the get-go, and I explained why

You were the one who stated that he wasn’t coming to South Bend because he would get divorced if he did.

You never posted a smiley face or anything to indicate that you were joking
It was only after I challenged you that you said you were goofing off

You got caught with your hands in a cookie jar, so just admit that you screwed up and let’s move on

I think the whole idea of destination jobs has diminished substantially in the past 10-20 years. I'm 41, and lots of people in the generation above me have advised me not to repeat their mistakes about choosing career success over family. I've taken their advice to heart, and I feel like I'm seeing plenty of other middle-aged people do the same.

It’s a delicate balance and with the cost of a college education soaring to ridiculous levels, you have to make sacrifices in order to advance your career in order to support your family and educate your children.

Decades ago many people retired from the same company they started with, today that’s almost unheard of.

Today, I’m told by the younger generation, that you have to change jobs in order to advance more rapidly, rather than staying with an organization and advancing within.

To be clear, these aren’t hourly jobs, and the compensation is rather significant

While I'm disappointed Blanchard isn't coming. I have a suspicion he may have only lasted a year or two, if indeed he was hesitant about moving to Indiana. There's more to life than advancing your career and making money. If he's happy at TT, good for him.

Family....tough to move 5 kids and a wife from Texas when you don't have to / already have a good job

Lubbock TX is 660 miles away from where Blanchard was born in Orange TX. That's twice the distance to Albuquerque.

TTech outbid ND. It is very hard to outbid the taxpayers of a major state.
