Hats off to Kelly and the staff. I wasn’t overly concerned going in because I was in Lou’s camp and felt like they had heard about the possibility of this game being a “trap” all week that they’d be ready. Our 11 possessions resulted in 6 TD’s, FG, missed FG, and three fumbles. BC really didn’t do one thing to slow us down.
JOK. Just wow. This kid is such a difference maker type of player. I thought on the original look on the Flowers pass breakup that JOK had gotten “lucky” and the ball hit his foot. On the replay seeing he actually turned back found the ball and knocked it away was jaw dropping. That was a great play. He’s a phenomenal talent.
I may be in the minority but I had zero issue with Ben’s unsportsmanlike penalty. IMO, attitude is one thing this team has lacked in years past and seeing guys like Kyren, Ben, Brauer, and Bothello chirping is fine with me. Fine line on taking a stupid penalty for sure but I like the attitude.
Its scary to think how good this offense can still be as Book becomes more comfortable with the WR’s. McKinley, Davis, and Ben making plays consistently the last few weeks and Keys getting a couple touches yesterday along with Lenzy coming back. It’s also one of those pieces of the puzzle kinda things, as the WR’s continue to make plays it’s going to open up the TE’s and run game even more.
Speaking of the run game, man how nice is it to run the football regardless of our opponent or the fact they know we are going to run. I love that this is our identity. Not to mention the pass blocking has been outstanding.
Speaking of outstanding, Book is in complete control. His pocket presence is becoming elite. The backpedaling from pressure rolling out and hitting Ben in stride was one of many great plays he made yesterday, standing in the pocket in the face of pressure on third down delivering the ball to Davis for the big gainer is the type of play that’s going to cause sleepless nights for DC. If we play Clemson again It will be interesting to see how Venables calls the game. Continue to blitz almost every down? Drop eight with a spy?
I’d like to see a QB waggle with Mayer on TE drag, screen game, inside reverse to Tremble and a few more designed misdirection plays to incorporate the TE/backs and just to use the defenses over pursuit against them a little more. The Book keeper on the RPO was really nice, picked up big yardage and slows the DE down.
