Recruiting *** Singer's National Signing Day Thread ***

Hey folks, just like last year, this thread will be locked for those who only want the live updates and don't want to sort through user comments, and there will be a normal thread with the same updates open for you all to post in as well.

Here is the link to our front page NSD Central: https://notredame.rivals.com/news/notre-dame-fighting-irish-national-signing-day-central-1

About half of Notre Dame's class will sign at the top of the hour.

Great article in The Athletic today on cheating in football recruiting

The Athletic is a premium subscription site, so I will not link the entire article they have today on cheating in recruiting. But if you are a subscriber, I would recommend that you read it.

In the article, they talked to anonymous coaches from each conference. I am going to list below some of the comments from the SEC coaches when asked if they come across cheating in recruiting:

SEC-1: “I’m in the Southeastern Conference. I see cheating all the ****ing time.”

SEC-3: “You hear about it frequently, in our conference anyways.”

SEC-1: “We’ve had handlers that come into our building, walk into my office and say, ‘You can have this player, but it’ll cost you blank.’ We tell them, ‘No, thank you. We’re not interested.’ And then those kids go to one of three schools in our conference every time. I have no interest in it because here’s the thing — if they cheat with you, they’ll cheat on you. And so if we enter into that situation when we had that happen, then when push comes to shove, and we need to be tough on them, they own you.”

SEC-1: “We’re not worried about them finding out it was us or anything. The league and the NCAA are gonna tell us the same thing: Without evidence, we can’t do anything. Because remember, the league and the NCAA, they have no jurisdiction to investigate. They can’t issue search warrants and payments. So it’s just that a ‘He said, she said’ thing.”

What it the old joke about coaching in the SEC - "If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying"

The “ conference championship “ criteria

This really makes me nervous. This is one of the committees main criteria AND a tiebreaker. And its quite clear the committee is looking at different things with different teams-eye test, number of games, number of losses, etc.... and its clear 3 of the 4 teams currently in the top four are likely going to be conference champions. If nd loses, yet usc wins, iowa state wins, it does allow the committee to fall back on the conference championship criteria to justify doing a few things that could leave nd out.

How do we not get in?

Besides losing by 40+, I honestly don't see a way we don't get in.
5) Texas A&M lost to bama by 30 and beat Florida....
6) Iowa st. has 2 losses and lost to Louisiana (not LSU)
7) FLorida has 2 losses (Maybe if they beat bama somehow)
8) Georgia 2 losses no games left
9) Cincy (no chance)
10) Oklahoma 2 losses (lost to ksu and isu) no chance...

What does everyone else think?

OT: Classic Interview from First Chinese NCAA Football Player to score a TD

The first Chinese born player to ever play in college football game, Jackson He, scored a touchdown and gave a great interview to ESPN (I know). Arizona State destroyed Arizona 70-7 but there was more to that game.....Listen to this incredible interview. #FeelsGoodMan

PS: if anyone knows his dialect can you tell me what he said?

Coach Lea versus Barry Alvarez?

Lou or anyone with knowledge please provide your perspective regarding Barry Alverez transition to Wisconsin in comparison to how Coach Lee will be transitioning to Vanderbilt? How did Holtz handle that situation? To me this feels like a huge distraction to the team and could possibly negatively impact recruiting with signing day in a couple of days. I’m hopeful The defense will be motivated to play inspired football for him.

Recruiting 10:30 AM NSD Update

Posted this in the other NSD threads but wanted to make sure everyone sees this.

----

Ok, here's where things stand at 10:30 AM ET

- 22 of Notre Dame's 24 commitments have signed.

- Kahanu Kia will give Notre Dame 23 signees at noon ET.

- Logan Diggs has not signed yet. The latest intel I've received is that Diggs will skip signing today to give himself more time to decide between LSU and Notre Dame. My gut tells me he will sign this week, but he may skip the early period and sign in Feb. In my opinion, that'd be a risky choice, but LSU and Notre Dame could recruit over him.

- Audric Estime is also not signing today, but the chances are pretty good that he signs with Notre Dame this week. Not signing it's a certainty, but I feel pretty good about ND's chances of landing him Thursday or Friday.

- Donovan Edwards is expected to announce at 1:30 pm ET on ESPN2. My pick is Michigan. Notre Dame will finish third in this recruitment.

Recruiting Notre Dame National Signing Day Guide

Ok folks, tomorrow is National Signing Day, and I wanted to break down the recruits by which time zone they are in. Next to the time zone is the time they're allowed to sign.

How tomorrow works is that the recruits will "e-sign" at 7am their local time and then some have a signing ceremony. Others don't have a ceremony, such as Tyler Buchner who will be throwing in Los Angeles and Rocco Spindler who is hunting in Texas. The kids have their electronic signing, which then allows ND to announce them, and then I believe they sign more papers to fax/whatever in to Notre Dame.

Names that are in bold below are players that are on the fence heading into NSD.

Eastern Time Zone (7am ET)
JoJo Johnson
Caleb Johnson
Philip Riley
Jayden Thomas
Deion Colzie
Mitchell Evans
Ryan Barnes
Jason Onye
Lorenzo Styles
Cane Berrong
Blake Fisher
Prince Kollie (no set announcement time/date, could sign Thurs. or Fri., but expecting ND here)
Audric Estime* (no set announcement time/date, not expected to sign tmrw but could sign Thurs. or Fri. or wait until Feb.)
Donovan Edwards* (announcing at 1:30pm ET on ESPN2, looking like UM or UGA)

Central Time Zone (8am ET)
Logan Diggs (may not sign Wednesday, could decide Thurs. or Fri. or wait until Feb.)
Joe Alt
Pat Coogan
Justin Walters
Gabriel Rubio
Rocco Spindler (in Texas tomorrow)

Mountain Time Zone (9am ET)
None

Pacific Time Zone (10am ET)
Devin Aupiu
Joshua Bryan
Will Schweitzer
Chance Tucker
Tyler Buchner

Hawaii Time Zone (12pm ET)
Kahanu Kia

Let me know if you have any questions.

DAILY COVID-19 THREAD, Wednesday, December 16

• All thoughts on COVID, statistics, speculation, updates, etc. should be posted in the daily thread.

• COVID threads that pop up separately on the board will be merged into our daily thread — with the exception of sports news items that are related to COVID (school testing updates, announcements, etc.). These can have their own threads but our staff has final discretion.

• As always, political posts – whether in the COVID thread or not – will be deleted.

As the Irish prepare for the ACC Championship meeting versus Clemson this Saturday, 191 tests of players through Sunday produced only one positive test, and nobody is in quarantine.

Recruiting 7:20 pm ET Update

- I am told that Audric Estime won't be signing tomorrow, but he has left the option open for Thursday or Friday. Notre Dame still has another day or two to try to get Estime signed this week. He is committed to Michigan State, but I've said on a number of occasions that I'd be shocked if he signed with the Spartans this week. A number of new schools have reached out to Estime in the past few weeks, and waiting to sign in Feb. would give him the opportunity to weigh his options more and visit Notre Dame.

- Still no word on Logan Diggs. Our LSU rivals site has FutureCast picks in for the Tigers to land another running back recruit, but LSU will still have room for Diggs. But still, that can't sit well with Diggs, who was upset Notre Dame is going after a second back, while Diggs would be the third in the class at LSU. I reported earlier in the day that Diggs had really positive talks with ND lately, but I haven't received indication yet that he's made a final decision, and he could skip the early period altogether.

- I am expecting Prince Kollie to stick with Notre Dame. "Mature" is a word I hear a lot when it comes to Kollie, and after the initial shock, he is understanding the big picture here. Kollie still hasn't come to a final call yet, but he did speak with Brian Kelly and Nick Lezynski today, and I'm told those conversations went very well. Kollie will sleep on it and I believe he'll sign this week.

- Hearing Donovan Edwards to Michigan but haven't dug too hard on that one because I would be shocked if it's ND. Putting my priorities on the other guys.

OT: Top-10 Chicago Cub MLB prospects

The Chicago Tribune listed the top-10 Cub prospects according to Baseball America:

  1. Brailyn Marquez, LHP
  2. Brennen Davis, OF
  3. Miguel Amaya, C
  4. Ed Howard IV, SS
  5. Adbert Alzolay, RHP
  6. Kohl Franklin, RHP
  7. Ryan Jensen, RHP
  8. Christopher Morel, 3B
  9. Chase Strumpf, 2B
  10. Riley Thompson, RHP
Quite frankly, this is not a real impressive list once you get past the top-5 players on the list. I guess that is to be expected when your farm system is only ranked in the 26-28 range in the various farm system rankings that I have seen this winter.
