Mentors of NIU Coach Thomas Hammock

Played or worked under John Harbaugh, Barry Alvarez and Bret Bielema. He’s 43 years old and paying his dues. He has made a name for himself. If he continues to produce he will be in charge of a major college program sooner than later. I don’t understand why ADs don’t look at guys coming up the ranks and being seasoned like Hammock. I’m saying this because the Marcus Freeman hire was risky. Notre Dame is not a job for a first time head coach. I hope it works out for Coach Freeman.

I think it's funny

That the offense completely shit the bed.

And the "journalists" running a paid site that knows they have competition for their viewership / subscriptions

Have the gall to call out this teams defense and leave the putrid offense production and ST execution as an aside to the main article as if that weren't the main reason for the collapse.

Mind you they've created no articles calling out the lack of offense. Their main point was that NDs defense didn't shut everything down and create turnover and pick 6s.

I for one come here to read journalism before slap dicking on the message boards and this is just pathetic. These guys get to talk to coaches and get more inside info than we could ever dream of.

Is this the hot takes ND information site or are you guys serious? Or we just covering cuz you guys thought Denbrock was the big breakfast with hotcakes? Or you're worried about being booted from interviews if you write a slam piece?

Next season

And before I start, I get it. ND should sell flags that say “ND: Just wait til next season”.

But if ND drops another game before USC, they’ve got to start getting Carr major reps because Freeman’s tenure will come down to next season. This QB nonsense needs to stop, no more putting bandaids on an ax wound (😏). ND’s gonna lose Knight, so frankly Carr MUST hit because of he doesn’t, buckle up for the next 2, 3, 4 years.

ND is Clemson before they got Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence. And look at them after those guys left. Programs like Clemson and ND have no choice but to hit home runs at QB because we aren’t lining up 5-stars anywhere else like Georgia, OSU, Bama etc. BK and Tommy never seemed to grasp this for some reason.

*Edit: Yes there are other areas of concern. Line depth, D-line getting pushed around, receivers not getting separation (recruiting), but QB is what is and has held this program back for WAY too long.

Football Podcast: Dayne Crist on how a quarterback gets back on track, adjusts to new system

Former Notre Dame quarterback Dayne Crist (2008-11) discusses how Riley Leonard can bounce back from a rough start to the season, what it's like on campus after a loss like last weekend's, how difficult it is to switch offensive systems, his role in the 2009 win at Purdue, returning to play following injuries, what he's seen from ND's receivers, his confidence in head coach Marcus Freeman and more.

Then @Eric Hansen and I answer questions from Twitter and The Insider Lounge (27:09).

Football Under Armour's Notre Dame Coaches Collection has launched

Notre Dame fans have been clamoring to have access to some of the gear coach Marcus Freeman wears. But I'm not sure that launching the week after the loss to Northern Illinois is exactly the best timing on Under Armour's part.

Details:

Inspired by the sideline style of Head Coach, Marcus Freeman, this two-part collection consists of Irish Wear Green and the Shamrock Series, both now live on UA.com, The Notre Dame bookstore, and Notre Dame Fanshop.

Coaches will be sporting each series from the collection at two widely awaited games this season:
  • September 28 vs. Louisville: Irish Wear Green
  • November 23 vs. Army: Shamrock Series
This Coaches Collection comes off the heels of Under Armour’s partnership renewal with Notre Dame last year, as a reiteration of a shared commitment to authenticity, innovation and achievement.
