Recruiting Why 2026 TE Jack Janda’s first Notre Dame game-day visit was successful

While I expect to speak with a few 2025 targets that visited Notre Dame on Saturday later on Monday, I had the chance to speak with Notre Dame 2026 tight end prospect Jack Janda on Sunday evening.

Janda, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound tight end, attends Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary's and camped at Irish Invasion in June. He returned on Saturday for the Pittsburgh game.

On his visit:

"It was a great trip," Janda told Inside ND Sports. "Everyone greeted me there. Everyone treated me nicely. The environment ... I mean, they were winning by like 40 and fans were all still going crazy. Notre Dame's a special place."

On his interaction with the coaching staff:

"Yeah, it was nice. It was good to talk to coach Parker for a little bit before the game and coach Gino a for little. They asked me how everything was going and we just caught up a little bit."

On Notre Dame's tight end usage:

"It's great how much they involve their tight ends in the game. You have a guy like Mitchell Evans that can beat anyone in one-on-one with his size, speed and strength. They use their tight ends really good."

This summer, Janda told me exchanged direct messages with Notre Dame 2024 quarterback commit CJ Carr through X/Twitter and spoke highly of the future Irish signal caller in our conversation.

Janda is not currently rated or ranked by Rivals but has nine total offers including Illinois, Louisville and West Virginia. He also has interest from Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State and Wisconsin.

Janda said he wants to visit Notre Dame soon and is looking at the winter or spring of 2024.

Football Analysis: Avery Davis helped Notre Dame S Watts get comfortable making flip

Also items on Clemson QB pedigree ... tracking the whereabouts of the 2018 ND recruiting class ... players with expiring eligibility after this season ... and the stat matrix of ND and its 12 opponents.

Play Action?

Why doesn't ND run more play action. I saw a play toward the end of the game, beautiful play action to the back, froze the linebackers and had a wide open receiver in the end zone. With ND's running backs, play action should work and yet, you hardly ever see it. The lack of creativity and diversity in their play calling is just frustrating. Maybe Hartman doesn't feel comfortable running play action?

2024 Potential QB Target - Cam Rising

Looks like M.Freeman may have his eye on another transfer QB.

One guy I believe would be worth considering if he decides to jump in the portal is Cam Rising Utah QB who is out all year in 2023. He has a weird throwing stance/mechanics but has been very productive. He's very tough as well, more athletic than Hartman.

I

Pick Play/Rub Route

Why does it seem like we are the only team that gets flagged every time we have run one since the Corey Robinson play against FSU? I feel like we see teams score on these with more contact than what happened yesterday all the time. What am I missing? I would think if a DB can jam a receiver within 5 yards then this should be a little more legal. Especially yesterdays where there was hardly contact if any.

Football Five defining plays from Notre Dame football's humiliation of Pitt

My five defining plays from Notre Dame's victory over Pitt:

1. Sam Hartman’s first interception
2. Chris Tyree's punt return touchdown
3. Xavier Watts’ first interception
4. Audric Estimé’s first touchdown run
5. Jaden Mickey’s pick-6

What did I miss?

Football Notre Dame S Xavier Watts takes over national lead in interceptions

With two picks Saturday against Pitt and four in his past two games, Irish senior safety Xavier Watts is your new national leader in interceptions among FBS players with six this season. With four as a team on Saturday, the Irish moved into a tie for third with 13, behind only Liberty (16) and Oklahoma (14).

So hard to win in College football

Many on here are calling for MF to leave. We need a different coach. But look around the landscape of college football today. Riley who was the next big thing at USC is now under major scrutiny. We all know the hard times at Texas A&M with Jimbo Fisher. He was proclaimed to bring them a NC, even after buying the top recruiting class, he can't win. Dabo is finding his own scrutiny now at Clemson. Franklin at Penn St. can't win the big one and is under his own scrutiny. It's only going to get tougher and tougher for teams to sustain success when the super conferences start forming next year. Even Day at Ohio St. is under scrutiny for not beating Michigan. Harbaugh was under major scrutiny until he finally broke through against OSU.

Point I'm trying to make is give MF and his staff some time. It's not easy winning week in and week out, especially at ND. ND will always have a bullseye on their back because they are ND. No matter what a teams record is, they are going to try and play their best to beat them. Look at the NFL with the 49ers and Eagles. They lost to teams they should have easily beat recently. If you can't see the positive direction and sustainability of this program under MF and his staff than I don't know what you're looking at. Would it be nice to be in the NC hunt this year. Hell ya, but it's harder than it has ever been to consistently do that with our recruiting restrictions, transfer portal, and location. Despite all that we are recruiting at a high level and that's because of MF and his staff.
