Hartman - Tommy

Feel bad for SH. A real stand-up guy. Most of what has happened has been out of his control. He chose ND to play and be coached by Tommy. That fell apart quickly so the transition to a new OC and QB coach was dramatic. And the drop-off in coaching has been even more dramatic.
Tommy also recruited the rest of the current QB room and Carr coming in January. Hoping they don't panic and 'reach' on a grad transfer QB. Regardless of who's calling plays, developing QB's are essential.
Too much blame on Stuckey and the WR room for the passing game woes. It's injured and young but when in the last 5 years has there been 2 quality WR's at the same time? The scheme that was implemented in the past using TE's was creative and productive. Staes and Riordan should be able to pick up the slack.

Basketball WBB Recruiting: Kate Koval will sign her letter next week

Today is the first day of the early signing period for men's and women's college basketball. The signing period continues through next Wednesday. Five-star center Kate Koval is not expected to sign today but rather early next week. She verbally committed to the Irish on Oct. 4. The Irish were in the top three for five-star forward Mackenly Randolph, who had yet to publicly announce her choice going into today. ... The men's BB signing class will be announced today, and @Tyler James will have full coverage of Micah Shrewsberry's class this afternoon.

This off-season may determine MF’s time at Notre Dame

Here on a Saturday night thinking about the program heading into the off-season in a few months…when the Irish play in the Toilet Bowl game, win or lose, MF will have to make two major decisions that will determine his future at Notre Dame;

-Al Golden is most likely done at Notre Dame. He will probably go back to the Pro’s to coach. Last week MF made some noise in one of his blah blah press conference when he said he had full confidence in his DB coach being a defensive coordinator. I’m scared Freeman is trying to plant the seed. Will MF elevate another position coach with limited coaching experience to be his Coordinator?

-G.Parker will head into the off-season having his offense to blame for ND’s loses this season. A 6th year QB looks lost and drained. Unrecognizable. MF will have to make a decision if he continues to ride with his BFF or makes the tough call to replace his offensive coordinator.

It would make sense for MF to replace Al Golden with an experienced DC. Surround himself with veteran coaches so that MF can focus on recruiting and being the face of the program. Freeman isn’t an offensive guy, it would make sense to replace Parker with an experienced OC so that Freeman can focus on being the ND brand ambassador.

I’m concerned Freeman will replace Golden with his DB coach, the same guy with as much defensive coordinator experience as me. Freeman will be flanked by a rookie DC and a Rookie-ish offensive coordinator. These guys can turn out to be amazing coordinators. They can also turn out to be duds.

My question is what are these guys bringing to the table aside from being MF’s buddies and former co-workers? Parker adopted Rees’s offense, doesn’t have his own that he has spent years mastering and scheming. How about Mike Mickens? Is he going to adopt Al Goldens defense or adopt MF’s defense? Either way, MF will have now have to take part in the defense and offense game planning because those potential new coordinators don’t have an identity, simply adopting schemes with very little experience with them.

MF has to learn the game of football from a head coaches perspective. His game management has raised red flags. Weird decisions and non decisions. In about 2 1/2 months we will know what MF decides to do with his coordinator positions, I think we’ll have a clearer picture of MF tenure at ND.

Freeman does not have it

The next two years will be waiting out the clock until we can replace him.

A list of his failures:

- He hired a zero as am OC… a complete zero who has made this offense one of the worst in P5
- He is an awful in game coach, clock management is a joke and his body language screams, I don’t know what I am doing.
- He allowed this WR to happen. Once Hartman was in the fold he should have been pounding on Jenkins door saying “we need two elite undergrad WRs!!!”
- The ultimate failure is he took a QB who was a sure thing and made him a mess and a liability, that would be hard to do if you tried.

Now we are stuck for at least 2 years, and Freeman is a nice guy and a great representative for ND just a horrible head coach.

Basketball MBB: Markus Burton sets Notre Dame program record for freshman debut in win

It took Indiana Mr. Basketball Markus Burton just one game to do something special for Notre Dame. His 29 points in the season opener against Niagara are the most scored in a freshman debut in program history.

Story by Bill Bilinski:

Basketball MBB: Game Thread | Notre Dame 70, Niagara 63 (Final)

Notre Dame men's basketball will officially start the Micah Shrewsberry era tonight with the 2023-24 season opener against Niagara.

The Irish defeated Division III Hanover, 96-62, on Wednesday in a home exhibition. The Irish will host the Eagles, who finished 16-15 last season, at 7 p.m. EST in Purcell Pavilion.

In Wednesday's exhibition, Notre Dame's started five consisted of new faces: freshman guard Markus Burton, freshman guard Braeden Shrewsberry, junior guard Julian Roper II, sophomore forward Tae Davis and sophomore forward Kebba Njie.

Roper, Davis and Njie transferred to Notre Dame in the offseason from Northwestern, Seton Hall and Penn State, respectively.

Burton led the Irish with 18 points. Shrewsberry and fellow freshman Logan Imes joined him in double digits with 14 points. Senior Matt Zona and junior J.R. Konieczny each added 12 points off the bench.

You'll likely need the link to Notre Dame's roster if you want to follow along.

Parker - DWI

Not sure how I feel about this. I never saw anyone else post this on the board.

our last 2 OCs have a criminal record albeit Rees stemming from an incident while in college..

I must say, I'd question his commitment with a full coaching career in front of him doing something this stupid with the accessibility of rideshare.

HKY: Notre Dame opens Big Ten play with pair of ties, shootout split with Penn State

The Notre Dame hockey team opened the Big Ten play this weekend, tying 17th-ranked Penn State on the road both Saturday and Sunday and splitting shootout verdicts with the Nittany Lions (5-2-2, 0-0-2 Big Ten).

Freshmen figured strongly in the outcome in Saturday night’s shootout win for Notre Dame (4-3-2, 0-0-2) that followed a 3-3 regulation/overtime deadlock.
Freshman Cole Knuble had the shootout-winning goal, while freshman Fleming Maddux’s power-play goal in the third period sent the game into overtime. Freshman Brennan Ali also scored a goal for the Irish as did grad senior Trevor Janicke.

Ryan Bischel stopped 28 shots for the Irish.

In Sunday’s game, the Nittany Lions rallied from a two-goal deficit to force overtime at Pegula Ice Arena. Janicke and Drew Bavaro scored the Irish goals in a game tied at 2-2 at the end of regulation. Bischel was credited with 48 saves.
