The ongoing Michigan sign-stealing saga

Story from Dan Wetzel and Ross Dellenger:

From the story:

Teams are normally provided extensive video footage to scout opponents. At issue, according to sources, is whether Michigan used unnamed individuals to attend games of both scheduled opponents and possible College Football Playoff opponents in an effort to gather information on the signs they use to call both offensive and defensive plays.

Basketball MBB: Game Thread | Notre Dame 66, Oklahoma State 64 (Final)

Notre Dame men's basketball (1-2) looks to bounce back in the four-team Legends Classic at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Saturday against Oklahoma State (1-2).

The Irish fell 83-59 to Auburn on Thursday. The Cowboys lost 66-64 to St. Bonaventure.

In Notre Dame’s loss, head coach Micah Shrewsberry’s squad shot 2-of-26 from the 3-point line. J.R. Konieczny led the team with 18 points and also added 11 rebounds for a double-double.

The Irish will likely be without starting forward Kebba Njie, who's working back from a hand injury.

Without Njie, Notre Dame is expected to start guards Markus Burton, Braeden Shrewsberry, Julian Roper II and forwards Tae Davis and Matt Zona.

Experienced Head Coaches are ALWAYS the way to go

Experienced Head Coaches are ALWAYS the way to go

Look at USC. What a great hire!!!!

3x to Playoffs. 2 Previous HEISMAN QBs. Transfers in #1 QB….. sc still sux. And speaking of can’t miss….OC Garrett Riley. What a steal.??? From CFP Finalist TCU. Tons of offensive talent. Clemson offense can’t miss. REALLY???

In Reality Brian Kelly never recruited a legit QB at NOTRE DAME in 12/13 years at NOTRE DAME. He left the cub bard bare at QB & WR. And he had No Upside at NOTRE DAME. I’m not happy with 7-3, but at least MF has upside. And if he doesn’t improve then we can move on.

Brian “losingest coach in ND history” Kelly has really rocked his LSU TEAM. Watched Full Bama and FSU games and LSU was totally outplayed and out coached In both losses. Not to mention their Domination of an avg MISSISSIPPI team.

Ty Wiilllingham came to NOTRE DAME with great previous head coach experience. He sucked at ND.

It took Jim Harbaugh 7 years at M before he was “successful”. And he had tons of college and pro experience as coach and player.

And Watched 2 supposedly Quality QBs and Coaches make terrible decisions last night. After missing 2 extra points Denver runs clock down and PLAYS FOR A FIELD GOAL instead of trying to score TD. And HE MISSES ANOTHER CHIP SHOT , then is rescued by BUFFALO ( can’t count to 11) penalty FOLLOWING a time out on 2 plays prior and he hits it. So even experienced QBs and coaches sometimes suck.

Looking forward to a chance for improvement in 2024. Something that never could look forward to with Kelly.

Hypothetically can Chip Kelly to ND improve ND’s offense?

Hear me out…

In the coming weeks Kelly will be fired once again as a head coach. The man is nearly 60 years old. Chip is the offensive guru ND has been lacking at Offensive Coordinator. He would bring an aggressive and creative game plan to ND.

This is the type of coach MF can hand over the offense to and not have to worry. Kelly has been leading offenses for nearly 2 decades. I think ND’s offense can make the transition to playing Kelly Ball.

Recruiting Submitting a new FutureCast prediction in favor of Notre Dame

Before the visitors make their way to campus for Saturday's final Notre Dame home game of the season, I want to put in another Notre Dame FutureCast prediction.

This one is for Notre Dame's lone target visiting this weekend: 2025 safety Ivan Taylor. I've been considering making this prediction for a couple weeks, but I wanted to make sure he still followed through on this visit. If you're visiting Notre Dame for a November home game against Wake Forest after attending a game last month, you're obviously very serious about the Irish. This will be Taylor's fourth visit to ND since the start of June.

It would be in Notre Dame's best interest to get a commitment from Taylor soon, because I sense that some other programs may start pushing harder soon. Notre Dame is in the driver's seat here. Let's see if it can finish first.

As usual, I will wait until tomorrow to formally put my prediction in the system. The Insider Lounge always gets to learn about it first.

Recruiting Notre Dame 2026 TE prospect Brady Shust excited before first visit

Notre Dame football plans to welcome several prospects in the 2026 recruiting class on Saturday for unofficial visits during the Wake Forest game. The full list of commits, targets and prospects expected can be found on our running visitors list thread.

The Irish extended an invitation to 2026 tight end prospect Brady Shust this weekend. The 6-foot-5, 215-pound tight end attends Montvale (N.J.) St. Joseph's. Shust already has four offers from Boston College, Connecticut, Duke, Syracuse and Virginia Tech.

I spoke with Shust on Thursday evening to get his thoughts before his Notre Dame trip this weekend.

On his feelings before visiting Notre Dame :

"I am super pumped up to have the opportunity to visit Notre Dame this weekend having it being my first Notre Dame game ever," Shust told Inside ND Sports. "The things I would most look forward to seeing are the Play Like A Champion sign, facilities and The Word of Life Mural."

On what he wants to learn about on Saturday:

"On this visit, I want to learn about the academics, football program, and how the atmosphere is on campus. This way I can make the best decision for me to be successful on and off the field."

On what he brings to the tight end position:

"Physical and Athletic. I am big enough and strong enough to block defensive linemen and athletic enough to run all of my routes as a receiver ... having the best of both worlds."

Shust is also a Division I baseball prospect. He said it's a goal of his to play both in college but understands he might have to pick one to primarily focus on. He does not have a favorite of the two at this time.

Recruiting 2025 LB Jacob Wrbanek discusses Notre Dame football ahead of Saturday visit

Notre Dame football will host its last recruiting weekend of the season on Saturday when they host Wake Forest. Our running visitors list thread has been fully updated to reflect which targets, commits and prospects plan to attend.

One of the only 2025 prospects expected on campus is 2025 linebacker Jacob Wrbanek, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound recruit out of Maple Grove (Minn.) High. He has visited schools like Kansas State, Iowa State, Nebraska and Wisconsin this season.

Inside ND Sports caught up with Wrbanek on Thursday to discuss his feelings about visiting, expectations and more.

On what he wants to get out of his trip:

"I want to learn from my visit how I fit into the program and what the next steps I should be taking are," Wrbanek said. "I also want to learn more about the program on gameday. This will be my first time attending a Notre Dame football game so to see how the players, coaches and fans all are on gameday will be awesome to see."

On his play style at linebacker:

"I believe my best ability as a linebacker is filling the gaps. think I do a good job reading plays and knowing where I need to fit up. On Saturday that’s really what I’ll be watching the most ... the linebackers. I really like how JD Bertrand plays so to watch him in person will be great to see."

On this visit:

"Visiting Notre Dame is super special for me since it’s a school that I’ve always grown up watching. Going forward I look forward to staying in contact with the coaches and growing my connection with them."

Rivals has not assigned a rating or ranking to Wrbanek yet.

Football How Billy Schrauth attacked his preparation for first career start

Sophomore Billy Schrauth will make his first career start Saturday as Notre Dame's right guard.

“Always a work in progress,” Schrauth said. “Our big thing here is win the interval, and that’s every rep of everything. That’s in your daily life and that’s on the field. That’s something I’m trying to aspire to work after every day.

“It’s a fight. It’s a grind. I mean, nobody’s perfect, but you can die trying.”

Basketball MBB: Auburn's talent, depth proves too much for Notre Dame

A young Notre Dame team trying to find an identity couldn't hang in the second half against a talented, deep Auburn team.

“We had a few guys play real well, play the way we’re trying to play as a group, but we need to see more guys do that," said ND coach Micah Shrewsberry.
