Basketball WBB: Fair Game: Syracuse star takes control as Orange upends No. 13 Notre Dame

And as far as sharing a timetable of when any or all of the injured guard quartet of Olivia Miles (knee, 11 games missed this season), Sonia Citron (knee, 8), Cass Prosper (leg, 6) and Emma Risch (hip, 4)?

“No updates,” Ivey said.

Tyler, are you going to do any analysis of the offensive line in the bowl game?

I assume you have better things to do now that you are getting a bit of a breather, but at some point, I'd love to hear your analysis of all the young guys on the line and how they performed together. Odds are, we were looking at next year's starters unless Wagner puts on some weight and grabs that left tackle spot? It seemed to a lay guy like me that both tackles kind of collapsed on that one sack of Angeli, but all in all, the line seemed to hold up, particularly the interior guys.

Will Notre Dame hire a General Manager?

I just saw Northwestern hire one and other programs have done this a while ago. The way college football is moving closer to a professional sport, it seems to make sense with all the obligations thrust on today's football coaches. Tyler or Eric, have you heard any rumblings in this regard. It sounds like Marcus has other off-the-field jobs to fill with Parker pilfering a couple. Having a GM to assist Marcus with running this program would seem to make sense if it is affordable.

College Divisions like NFL

It’s time for the college game to be semi-pro teams for the NFL. The ncaa needs to go and college football needs to be set up like the NFL. College players are semi-pro players now, just because of their age , maturity and experiences this age. With the introduction of the NIL along with the portal/ trade deadline it’s the NFL light .If you win your division your in , get a wild card etc. Then there is none of this bs about who the committee thinks is the best team, or who is in or out because their best running back or QB is hurt, 2 BAD next man in play the game, that’s why you have backups at all positions, in case someone gets hurt. HKY: Cole Knuble's OT goal gives Irish 3-2 win over Augustana

A day after Cole Knuble notched a hat trick, the Notre Dame freshman forward broke a 2-2 tie 22 seconds into overtime as the Irish prevailed, 3-2, over Augustana Sunday in a non-conference college hockey matchup at Compton Family Ice Arena.

Hunter Strand and Grant Silianoff assisted on the game-winning goal, which came on an Irish power play.

Paul Fischer and Michael Mastrodomenico also scored goals for Notre Dame (10-8-2), which swept visiting Augustana (6-10-2). It was the first goal of Mastrodomenico's college career. Ryan Bischel had 22 saves for the Irish.

Notre Dame jumps back into Big Ten play Friday night (7:30 EST) at home against sixth-ranked Wisconsin. The two teams meet again Saturday at 5 p.m.

Football Five defining plays from Notre Dame's Sun Bowl blowout win

My five defining plays from Notre Dame's most-lopsided bowl victory in program history:

1. Steve Angeli’s first touchdown pass
2. Joshua Burnham’s fake punt stop
3. Howard Cross III’s sack
4. Jordan Faison’s touchdown catch
5. Notre Dame’s fourth quarter safety

What did I miss?

Can’t have it both ways

I am tired of this BS in college football. I think if you say you have to be undefeated to play for the National Championship, your in, but because one guy gets hurt, no matter how good he is your not in. Liberty is 13-0, but they aren’t in why, because they didn’t play a tough schedule, if that’s true then why is michigan in, with the easy schedule and cheating scandal, won’t the championship be tainted if they win it all with an asterisk beside michigans name 4 cheating if they are found guilt you by the ncaa. Who says and where is it written that the sec has to be in, the playoff, you either follow the rules that you have written down or your a hypocrite and a cheater. What would have happened if the fsu QB hadn’t gotten hurt, would fsu still be in the playoff? The committee was looking for ANY REASON to get a sec team in the playoff, and that is criminal. What if the QB for any of the other playoff teams gets hurt before their game, does that team get substituted for another team, !NO! now it’s the next man in.College football is like the NFL now with the NIL and portal, your buying and selling players like the NFL, so don’t say the two are really that different. The same for the NFL, What about the Eagles when Wentz rocked the team into the playoffs, gets hurt, Boles subs for him and wins the Super Bowl.Didn’t see another team get substituted for the Eagles Next man in. I kind of hope FSU blows out Georgia and Bama wins the playoff. I think the AP should give the championship to FSU if that’s the case.

Although I think the committee probably got it right as far as the 4 best teams…it’s tough and wrong to leave FSU out. It really was a nightmare scenario because they weren’t going to leave the SEC champ out. And since UT best Bama if they were putting Bama in they had to put UT in.

Football ND's portal pursuit of an offensive tackle

I know we've gotten plenty of questions about who Notre Dame is going after as a potential offensive tackle addition. Names have been hard to come by at this point.

I did have one floated my way today. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to report who it is at this moment. I can say it's a player with starting left tackle experience who is not in the portal currently.

I know that's not a lot of information, but I've seen some people on the board dismissing that tackle is an actual need Notre Dame's trying to address. So I wanted to affirm that I am still hearing things to suggest that's the case.

If that player enters the portal, I'll mention then that he was the one I was referencing here. If nothing comes of it down the line, I'll circle back and let you know what I heard.

Just know that the transfer portal intrigue isn't done yet.

Recruiting Confirming two Rivals100 visitors for Notre Dame's junior day in January

You may have noticed our new running visitors list thread for the 2024 calendar year pinned above.

In setting that up, I've confirmed two Rivals100 additions for Notre Dame's junior day event on January 20: 2025 WR target Daylan McCutheon and 2025 OT target Owen Strebig.

McCutcheon has visited Notre Dame twice before: in April 2023 for a spring practice and in October for the USC game. He also told me he plans to visit Texas in January.

Strebig visited Notre Dame five times in 2023, including the Ohio State and USC games. I still have a FutureCast prediction in favor of Notre Dame for Strebig.

Football Transcript: WR Jordan Faison after Sun Bowl win over Oregon State

Here's the postgame transcript from wide receiver Jordan Faison. Questions are paraphrased.

JORDAN FAISON:

Q: Did you think you would be standing here as the MVP of the Sun Bowl?

A: “I mean, I had no idea. I was just going throughout the plays, you know, right foot, left foot, like coach says and end up here … pretty grateful.”

Q: Can you walk us through your touchdown?

A: “Yeah, so we we’re working on that play all week for their defense. I mean, we saw the coverage that we wanted and ran the play and it worked … great call by coach [Gino] Guidugli.”

Q: When preseason camp opened, did you have enough confidence in yourself to envision something like this happening?

A: “I did have confidence. I mean, I was pretty nervous. You know, you’re coming to a Division I level so the competition’s very high … you gotta bet on yourself and keep working. No matter what happens, work comes your way.”

Q: What did you see on your catch with the defender all over you?

A: “I didn’t really see much. I see the ball in the air [and] jump for it. Steve gives me an opportunity to make a play and was able to make it.”

Q: First start for quarterback, Steve Angeli, what were your thoughts on his outing today?

A: “Me and Steve been working for a while. From camp to throughout practice, throughout this week so I mean it was pretty easy to come in having Steve at quarterback … ball’s gonna be in the spot it needs to be and you just gotta make a play on it.”

Q: What kind of impact has wide receivers coach Mike Brown had on you guys in a short amount of time?

A: “Great impact. I love him. He’s already came in [and] taught us so much. Pay attention to the small details and he harps that on us so it helps us come out and be able to perform like we do.”

Q: You had a lot of new personnel today, do you think your 55-yard reception put everybody at ease a little bit?

A: “I mean, yeah, a little bit. We came out again expecting the defense we thought and I was able to get open and catch the ball.}

Q: On the possession where you all started on the four-yard line, there were five true freshmen on the field. What does that say about where the offense can go and grow from here?

A: “The ceilings very high for us. We work day in, day out. We wanna be the best, not only for ourselves but for our teammates. Them young guys are always coming in, working [and] asking the older guys questions. Without the older guys, we wouldn’t be where we are today … so big future ahead.”

Q: Jayden Thomas played well early. How did that help you ease into things and help set the tone for the day?

A: “It helps a lot. You come in nervous, you know, first bowl game. These guys have been done it so watching him be able to go do something … it motivates you to do something right behind it. It helps a lot.”

Q: How would you describe your first bowl game experience?

A: “It was pretty awesome. I’ve never been to Texas before or El Paso so [it was] definitely different for a Florida boy but it was pretty awesome seeing all the new things. The sunsets were pretty nice out here, I like that part. And then game-wise, [to] come out here being with the fellas all week is very fun. I love my guys. Being able to come out and perform in a game is just what you work for.”

Q: To cap off this year with 10 wins, what does that mean to you personally?

A: “It means everything. You know, we went through some tough losses during the season. I wasn’t playing during those losses but I still very well felt those losses. Being able to come in and finish the season up is awesome.”

Football ***Game Thread: Notre Dame 40, Oregon State 8 in Sun Bowl (Final)***

I've made my way to the Sun Bowl, so let's open this up.

We will use this game thread as the primary home for game commentary from now until after the game. We have some rules we'll ask you to follow, which will be included below.

If you're not following the rules and do not respond well to reminders, we'll remove you're posting privileges for the rest of the day. We have too much to do today to argue about it during the game. This doesn't happen often as we're pretty lenient in the game thread, but please keep that in mind.

@HotCarNut has disciplinary powers as a moderator. You can argue with him about the game, but do not argue with him about the rules.

Our game thread rules:

1. Use this thread until the end of the game for ongoing game commentary. We'd like to keep the conversation in one place. If something from the game merits a separate conversation of substance, go ahead and start another thread for that topic. When in doubt, post in the game thread.

2. Criticism of decision-making by coaches and players is allowed. But please avoid making it personal. Don't be malicious. Remember, that person's mother could be reading your post. If you cross the line, you'll lose posting privileges for the day.

3. Don't be a doofus. Have some respect for your fellow subscribers.

Basketball MBB: Notre Dame takes different form in surprising rout of Virginia

“Our guys were locked in since December 26,” said first-year head coach Micah Shrewsberry, his voice withered by the day’s sideline work. “What that game looked like is what our practices looked like for about three days in a row."
