Football Notre Dame Weathered The Uncertainty. Now It Has A Challenge It Wants

Make no mistake, Notre Dame is where it should be and wants the challenge given to it, even if you're not feeling too good about it.

Some positives heading into the Bama matchup

I’ve been pretty negative about the prospect of matching up with Bama but there are a few positives;

1). We are playing with house money, absolutely no one expects Notre Dame to even compete in this game. This is a very rare situation for a program like Notre Dame that is not only favored but expected to win every game outside of a select few matchups.

2). Notre Dame is going to spend weeks hearing from the talking heads that they don’t have a prayer, and Bama is going to be hearing that they have it in the bag.

3). The Clemson debacle will wake this team up at the very least and should leave a bad taste in their mouth heading into practice this week.

4). It sounds like Bama’s center is going to be out for the playoffs which as we’ve seen first hand is a big deal.

5). Bama’s secondary looked really vulnerable last night and TE Kyle Pitts made them pay. Notre Dame’s Michael Mayer is Notre Dame’s most comparable player so there should be plenty of opportunities for him to make an impact in the passing game.

Yeah it’s not much but It’s at least a few reasons to feel like Notre Dame can be competitive, what say you?

Excited for the future changes at

QB. I love IB and his win’s and stats at ND prove he’s a top 25 signal caller. Future- ND brings in Buchner and looking at his tape he more times than not anticipates the receiver breaking and the ball is there when they exit. He’s got the goods to throw receivers open at his age and will get better. IB doesn’t have that capability and therefore our WR’s don’t appear to ever get open. Book’s unwillingness to even try the tough throws let alone be able to deliver on them severely limits the potential for much of an explosive passing game. I thank IB for setting the table with some great recruits and a bright future of a potentially top 10 qb in Buchner.

Something to remember

It looked like we might not have a football season back in August. Conferences backed out. Teams backed out.
Notre Dame stayed the course. I recall much of the media and many football fans saying, “thank God for ND because we have college football!”
So while we are disappointed in yesterday’s game, we should tip our hats to the team and staff that played almost an entire season under horrible conditions. It’s easy for us to sit back and pontificate about how they didn’t really sacrifice all that much or how they get scholarships, but the grind is real, mentally and physically.
Thanks to the Notre Dame football program in 2020. Now go get ready to slay the beast.

A career defining game for Brian Kelly!

Find myself in the “unique” position of defending Brian Kelly. Please note that I have been very critical of him in past years. Now is not the time. I believe in this team. That being said this game against Alabama maybe his last chance for the ultimate “statement win. One that will earn him a bronze statue outside of ND Stadium. Matchups and adjustments are what makes the game of football. Watched the SEC game last night and noticed some things about Alabama. Yes they have NFL talent up and down the roster. However their D is venerable in certain areas. They had issues with creating pressure on Kyle Trask and WR matchups. They have become more a offensive team as compared to earlier in Saban’s regime. Envision ND’s vertical passing game being an essential ingredient for this game.

People still want to join a conference???

Thank God Jack and the ACC worked out an agreement for ND this year as it allowed for ND to play and it has been one hell of a fun ride. That said, if a normal year ND cruises in as a 2 seed as an independent instead of having to play Clemson a second time and now a 4 seed and have to play Bama. I’m assuming ND would of beaten it’s normal schedule which this year I believe they would have.

In my opinion until ND gets left out as an independent it’s still the best route.

No. 16 ND Hockey Loses Game 2 To Michigan State In OT, 4-3

Not a good weekend at all. Football gets rolled by Clemson, men's and women's basketball lose by double digits, and hockey at home gets a tie and loss against unranked Michigan State.

Two late Spartan goals propelled RV Michigan State (3-3-2, 2-3-1-2-0-0 B1G) to a 4-3 overtime victory over No. 16 Notre Dame (4-5-1, 3-4-1-0-1-1 B1G) on Sunday night inside Compton Family Ice Arena.

Graham Slaggert, Grant Silianoff, and Michael Graham all tallied goals for the Irish while Ryan Bischel made 24 saves. Michigan State’s netminder, Drew DeRidder stopped 42 shots to earn the victory for the Spartans.

The Irish went 2-for-2 on the penalty kill and 0-for-4 on the power play.

With time winding down in regulation and ND leading 3-2, Michigan State pulled DeRidder for an extra attacker and tied the game with just 22 seconds remaining. Just 1:26 into the overtime period, State’s Tommy Miller found the back of the net to clinch the win for the Spartans.

Basketball Irish Women Lose At Clemson, 78-55

Really disappointing performance after coming off a win versus Virginia Tech. Clemson was picked in the preseason by both the coaches and a Blue Ribbon panel as 13th among 15 teams in the ACC. Last year it was 3-15 in the league, yet opened with a 71-55 win at Notre Dame. This wasn't an encouraging sign.

The Irish are now 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the league. They don't play again until Dec. 31 at Miami.

• ND' was down by 20 at halftime (42-22) and trailed by as much as 27 in the second half.

• The starting lineup with Westbeld, Vaughn, Gilbert, Peoples and Mabrey combined to shoot 7 of 32 from the field.

• Westbeld finally had her first off game shooting (1 of 9) but still led the team in rebounds (11) and assists (5).

• The leading scorers came off the bench, Destinee Walker (14) and Abby Prohaska (12). Walker hadn't even played the past six quarters because the team seemed to be establishing more of an 8-person rotation. Now, it might be back to square one with rotation.

Something just isn't clicking consistently among all the individual parts while adjusting to a new coach and voice. I'm still counting on that by the end of January something starts to jell and a rhythm is found to become an NCAA Tournament team. Have to start first with getting back-to-back wins with much better and committed defense and more movement on offense.

Here is the box score.

Can we stop with the talent gap argument

Notre dame
5 olineman that will collect nfl
Paycheck
2 tight ends
2 backs

defense
4 defensive lineman
1 backer
And possibly 2 db

please stop. Also I constantly hear about our wide receivers not getting separation that included 2018 when we had two 2nd round picks at wr. The issue is not talent. Sorry. It Is something else.
