SIAP....Kelly quote

I went to a business wearing my ND mask. When I walked in I immediately saw a guy decked out in everything Bama. He and I exchanged “Good luck” and I went in to say that I wasn’t sure we will be able to hang with them. He said, “Well, your coach sure does. Did you hear what he said?”. He showed me a meme of his face with a quote attributed to him. The quote was something to the effect that this was not the 2012 BCS and Bama players should be scared to play them because we are going to whoop that a**. I told him he might want to check out the truth behind this because it does not sound like something the would say. I believe I am correct but he absolutely believed this was true. Have you seen this?

Wright

After watching the game we need Wright bad. If he’s a top 100 talent he will play day one. I believe if we just flip the QBs it would of been a real close game. We didn’t execute in redzone and a drop 4th down pass.( Davis should of slowed up) There is zero margin for error.

Our two best playmakers coming in are Styles and Kollie. I think Styles will help a lot with the PR game. Give us another playmaker to go with Tyree, Johnson, and a healthy Austin.

Football Liam Eichenberg Wins ACC Jacobs Blocking Trophy

The fifth-year senior left tackle was named the winner of the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, which has been awarded annually since 1953 to the most outstanding blocker in the ACC, selected by a poll of the league’s head coaches and defensive coordinators. The trophy is given in memory of William P. Jacobs, who served as president of Presbyterian College from 1935 to 1945.

With 38-career starts, Eichenberg ties for the most on Notre Dame’s offensive line, and has also earned an AP All-ACC first team selection. The Fighting Irish lead the ACC and rank eighth in the FBS in time of possession, controlling the ball for 33:57 minutes of game time. Behind its powerful offensive line, which has been named a finalist for the Joe Moore Award, Notre Dame won the time of possession battle in 10-of-11 games this season. The 33:57 time of possession average leads the ACC by more than two minutes per game.

Eichenberg has twice been honored as ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week, joining three other Irish O-Lineman who earned the distinction. Out of 10 regular season games, the Irish offensive line has been honored following five games. In addition to his two ACC weekly honors, Eichenberg has been named a semifinalist for the Outland Trophy.

The Notre Dame offensive line has paved the way for a 1,000 yard rusher in redshirt freshman Kyren Williams, who has collected 1,061 rushing yards through 11 games. Additionally, Notre Dame had two other players rush for 400+ yards in freshman running back Chris Tyree with 480 yards and graduate student quarterback Ian Book with 430 yards. As a unit, the Irish rank third in the ACC and 21st nationally in rushing offense (217.6 ypg).

OT: Auburn Coaching Search Already a Joke

Widely reported that they had centered on Louisiana Lafayette’s Billy Napier, only for him to walk away when he was offered limited flexibility on staff hires. This is after their fans started a campaign to prevent defensive coordinator Kevin Steele from getting hired, and Sarkisian also turned them down.

Rumors are they’re onto option 4, UAB coach Bill Clark, who while I think is a great coach and widely respected, is probably not the name that Auburn fans had in mind when they ran Gus Malzahn out of town and ate $21M.

Putting another bag of popcorn in the microwave...

The two things that are most glaring

Our inability to stretch the field with elite speed at multiple receiver positions and a quarterback who can make quick decisions and deliver the ball downfield on time. Watching safeties stacked 10 yards down field due to a lack of respect for a deep passing game is ridiculous. We are playing offense in the box and the box is stacked.

OT: Sammy Sosa and Steroids

Joe Posnanski of The Athletic wrote a series on the Greatest Baseball Players of All-Time last winter that was discussed quite a bit on this board. He has currently been writing an article on the 100 greatest players not currently in the Hall of Fame. He was at #24 today with a tie between Sammy Sosa and Gary Sheffield.

My post is not to argue about Sosa being in the Hall of Fame or to argue the question of steroid use. My post is to express surprise with what was contained in the following paragraph of the article:

He was widely suspected of steroid use because of his unprecedented power numbers, but he has fervently and repeatedly denied ever using steroids. In 2009, the New York Times reported that he tested positive for PEDs in 2003. The trouble with the Times report is that the 2003 test results were supposed to stay confidential — it was a survey and not an official drug test — and as such, the Times’ sources were anonymous and their motivations are shaky at best. It has left Sosa fighting against ghosts.

Sosa has always denied using PEDs with the argument that he had never failed a drug test. Opponents would always point out that he was one of the players who supposedly failed the 2003 test that was leaked to the New York Times.

I was one who always believed that Sosa therefore failed a drug test in 2003. Now it turns out that this was not an official drug test but WAS A SURVEY. What the hell to they mean by that? Was it a questionnaire asking players if they used PEDs? Was it a questionnaire asking players who they thought used PEDs?

Again, I do not want to argue whether Sosa used PEDs or not. Some will always assume that his increase in muscle mass and power surge is proof that he did. But it does appear that Sosa is on firm ground by saying that he never failed a drug test.

But this story is just another example of how a false or distorted story can become fact in the consciousness of the public.

Why not try new things

NDs approach of treating these games like any other game has failed miserably. Just acknowledge the talent disparity. And admit you must be willing to fight and die for each inch, as Al Pacino says. And admit you must be more creative and take more risks

Tyree needs to be used in two back sets with Williams and also in the slot. ND needs to use a PR who can take it to the house, even if it increases the risk of fumbling. Take a chance or two with Lenzy even if everyone knows it’s coming.

And just inspire the whole team to play like animals (I.e like Q Nelson) instead of business like.

NDs usual approach has repeatedly failed miserably. Again, ND is out-talented by a large margin. Try something different goddamnit.
