Looks like several UT boards say Brian Kelly is the favorite for the HC job

one of their insiders says Kelly is interested as he most likely hit the ceiling at ND.

if this happens who do you have in your short list besides Pope Urban?

Recruiting ANALYSIS: Notre Dame Defense & Special Teams Recruiting

Notre Dame landed a four-star in each area — line, linebacker, corner and safety — but how strong the overall group will be depends on the development of the less-publicized three stars. Fortunately, there is a good track record of success in that area.

Out smarting yourself?

The end of the Costal Carolina Liberty game and the Raiders Dolphins games.

Liberty is driving, late in the game lest than a I:15 seconds. Ball probably at the 7, first and goal with the game tied. First play hand off to the running back, Coastal D does nothing to prevent him from scoring. Running back runs 3 yards then takes a knee. Next play handoff to the same running back, who decides not to take a knee, Costal players are trying to drag him into the end zone along with one of his own teammate blasting him from behind trying to knock him into the end zone. Can you guess what happens? Fumble by the Liberty running back, Coastal Carolina recovers at the one. Luckily for Liberty they win with a field goal in overtime.

Coach take the gimme touchdown to go up 7 with a minute left to play. What a vote of confidence you showed in your defense.

The Dolphins Raiders game. Same thing. Raiders had a chance to score a gimme touchdown later. Yep you guessed in. Raiders running back take a knee. Raiders kick a field goal to take the lead at 25 to 23. Hey Chuckie you do realize all the Dolphins need is a field goal chance to win. Do you do any scouting? Does the name Jason Sanders ring a bell? You do now you dumbass. Can you guess what happens next, Sanders kicks a 44 yard game winning field goal. Chuckie your probably hearing Jason, Jason, Jason, in your head.

Moral of my rant take the points.

Crazy times, i know. Our family could still use some prayers

Our Family could use some extra love, especially this time of year.
My Father is still battling and the bills are piling up. For them, I shamelessly will do whatever it takes to help out.
God Bless and love you all ❤

DAILY COVID-19 THREAD: Sunday, December 27

• All thoughts on COVID, statistics, speculation, updates, etc. should be posted in the daily thread.

• COVID threads that pop up separately on the board will be merged into our daily thread — with the exception of sports news items that are related to COVID (school testing updates, announcements, etc.). These can have their own threads but our staff has final discretion.

• As always, political posts – whether in the COVID thread or not – will be deleted.

In the latest batch of testing released Monday, none of the 189 tests administered had a positive for the coronavirus.

Per Notre Dame's website, 16.5 percent of Notre Dame's undergraduate students (1,438 out of 8,731) tested positive during the fall semester that ended No. 20. The spring semester does not begin until the first week of February, and the school plans to continue in-person learning.

OT: I Never Heard of John Donaldson

Joe Posnanski of The Athletic continues his series on the greatest players not in the Hall of Fame. His #21 player was a Negro League player who played in the early 1900s, 1920s and 1930s by the name of John Wesley Donaldson.

The article quotes old time baseball people who told of his greatness. But what got to me was Donaldson's comments about his race and baseball at the end of the article. It showed both the character of the man and the 'crime' that kept great black players from playing in the Majors.

First some excerpts that extolled the greatness of Donaldson as a left-handed pitcher who many claimed was as good, if not better than Satchel Paige:

“John Donaldson influenced Satchel,” Buck O’Neil wrote in his book, “I Was Right On Time.” "....... and the fact is there are many people who saw them both who say John Donaldson was just as good as Satchel.”

......the owner of the Kansas City Monarchs, Hall of Famer J.L. Wilkinson: “Paige is a great pitcher all right … but Donaldson had more stuff. There never was a pitcher, Black or White, who could put more on the ball than Donaldson.”

It was a common tactic during that period that if a great Black player was light skinned, a major league team would often try to claim that player was a Cuban or an American Indian. As ridiculous as this sounds, a Cuban or American Indiana could play in the majors.

A number of MLB teams tried to get Donaldson to use that ploy. He said the following about this:

“I am not ashamed of my color,” he said. “There is no woman whom I love more than my mother. I am light enough so that baseball men told me before I became known that I could be passed off as Cuban. It would have meant renouncing my family. One of the agreements was that I was never again to visit my mother or have anything to do with colored people. I refused.

“I am clean morally and physically. I go to church and contribute my share, I keep my body and mind clean. And yet when I go out there to play baseball, it is not unusual to hear some fans cry out, ‘Hit the dirty n—.’ That hurts, for I have no recourse. I am getting paid, I suppose, to take that. But why should fans become personal? If I act the part of a gentleman, am I not entitled to a little respect?”

It appears that John Wesley Donaldson was as great a man as he was a pitcher.

Here is some rare film of Donaldson:
