Recruiting Notre Dame 2026 QB prospect Cam O'Hara enjoying big sophomore year

Under head coach Marcus Freeman, Notre Dame football has recruited the quarterback position at a high level according to the rating and rankings scale. The Irish currently have commitments from 2024 four-star quarterback CJ Carr and 2025 four-star quarterback Deuce Knight, both of whom rank top 30 in the national rankings per Rivals.

The Irish have already offered six quarterbacks in the 2026 recruiting class — USC commit Julian Lewis, Brady Smigiel, Noah Grubbs, Jared Curtis, Ryder Lyons and Will Griffin. Grubbs is the only target among that group that visited Notre Dame this season and camped with Guidugli last summer.

2026 quarterback Cam O'Hara doesn't have an offer from Notre Dame yet but visited earlier this season. He attends Union (Ky.) Cooper and has offers from Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky, Kentucky, Miami (Ohio), Tennessee State and Western Kentucky.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound signal caller has completed 182-of-262 attempts for 2702 yards, 39 yards and five touchdowns for Cooper this season.

I caught up with O'Hara to discuss more of his sophomore season, his interest in Notre Dame and more. O'hara told me he hopes to camp at Notre Dame next summer.

On his interest in the Irish and Sept. visit:

"I got to talk to all the recruiting coaches," O'Hara told Inside ND Sports. "Watching coach Gino [Guidugli] and the quarterbacks was awesome just watching them warm up and play at a high level is amazing."

On his play style as a quarterback:

"My skill set as a quarterback would be sitting in the pocket and delivering either difficult passes in the deep threat range or delivering passes to my guys and letting them get the ball and run."

On Notre Dame's coaching staff and potential offer:

"The coaches and recruiting coaches showed a lot of love. An offer from the Irish would be amazing just being able to compete at that level would be amazing."

Basketball MBB: How Notre Dame addressed roster needs in 2024 class

Notre Dame head coach Micah Shrewsberry: “I know we're going against the grain of what everybody else is trying to do. If you look at signing day around the country, people don't celebrate this like they used to, because they're recruiting in the handshake line. I'm recruiting high school kids."

Football Podcast: Peter Vaas on improving quarterback play and offensive execution

Peter Vaas, a two-time Notre Dame quarterbacks coach, discusses the play of Irish QB Sam Hartman, getting confidence back in a quarterback, the risk of benching Hartman for a younger QB, the impact of wide receiver cohesion, play-action passes as a solution, halftime adjustments, how quarterbacks influence scheme and more.

McCutcheon discussed the Irish, 2025 four-star QB commit Deuce Knight and more with Rivals National Recruiting Analyst Cole Patterson.

"He's always telling me that if I come, they're going to throw me the rock," McCutcheon said of Knight. "I'm going to get on the field and produce. It means a lot knowing that if I go to that school, I'll have a quarterback that'll get me the ball."

Head coach Micah Shrewsberry and director of recruiting Brian Snow will answer questions about the class during a press conference at 1 p.m. EST. Notre Dame's assistant coaches are also expected to provide a film breakdown of the signees. I'll provide updates in this thread and will have a story later today.

Recruiting 2026 TE Jack Utz is name to know for Notre Dame football recruiting

While Notre Dame football got its own 2024 and 2025 commits and high-profile 2025 targets on campus for games this season, the Irish also hosted several intriguing 2026 prospects worth monitoring down the road.

One of those prospects is Jack Utz. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound tight end out of Platee County (Mo.) High has four early offers from Kent State, Iowa State, Missouri and UNLV. The Irish hosted him for an unofficial visit in September for their win vs. Central Michigan and made a good first impression.

Inside ND Sports spoke with Utz to learn more about him, his visit, which schools are showing interest and more.

On his biggest takeaway from visiting Notre Dame:

"But what I liked the most was my options outside of football," Utz said. "They made sure I knew that football isn’t the only thing in life and that Notre Dame has so many different options after football with career opportunities."

On the game-day environment:

“The atmosphere was amazing … different than any other school I have visited. I could tell the fans are very loyal and dedicated. That made for a very electric stadium.

On what he’d think of an offer:

"From what I’ve seen, Notre Dame is an amazing school. I would love to keep growing a relationship with the Irish. I would be blessed to receive an offer from any school ... but if Notre Dame were to bless me with an offer I would be beyond excited to have the opportunity."

Utz said he's a tight end best suited in a pro-style offense that involves blocking responsibilities ans also vertical routes where the tight end can stretch the defense.

Utz has also visited Wisconsin, Missouri, Iowa State, Illinois and Kansas State this season. Missouri offered Utz right before his visit. He’s planning to return to Notre Dame next summer for camp.

Recruiting Friedman's East Spotlight: The best WRs I've seen in 2023

Rivals National Recruiting Analyst/Rankings Director Adam Friedman has named the top wide receivers he's scouted in person this season.

Notre Dame 2024 four-star WR commit Micah Gilbert listed.

Gilbert put up monster numbers this season, and it was like that at the beginning of the season, too,” Friedman said. “The Notre Dame commit has the strength to overpower defensive backs, strong hands to make tough catches over the middle and the overall athleticism to take catches for big gains. Gilbert may not be the fastest receiver on the field, but he makes a lot of big catches down the field and excels in jump-ball situations.”

Recruiting 2026 ATH Welman Crooms receiving early interest from Notre Dame

One of the more electric prospects in the 2026 recruiting class that Notre Dame has identified early on is athlete Welman Crooms. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound recruit has four early offers from Boston College, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Virginia Tech and is on Notre Dame's radar.

Crooms does it all for Matawan (N.J.) High. He plays cornerback, wide receiver, quarterback and returns kicks. He visited the Irish in September for the Central Michigan win and is followed by defensive coordinator Al Golden on Twitter/X. He spent extensive time with recruiting analyst Dre Brown during his trip to campus.

I reached out to Crooms to discuss Notre Dame, his profile at the next level, what an offer would mean and more.

Reflecting on his Notre Dame visit:

"I loved the game day feeling," Crooms told Inside ND Sports. "The energy of the crowd and the team ... I hope to get invited back soon."

On how his skills translate to the next level:

"I’d say my versatility and skill set bring value to a team. I can do almost any and every job you ask me to do on both sides of the ball."

On increasing contact with the Irish:

"An offer from a school like Notre Dame would be amazing for me and my family. It would be a great place to continue my athletics and academics if I were to ever come across the opportunity."

Crooms is currently unrated and unranked by Rivals. He hopes to visit Notre Dame in the spring and summer, as well as schools like Syracuse, Rutgers and Penn State.

Recruiting My next FutureCast prediction for Notre Dame

I'm ready to make another prediction in Notre Dame's favor for the 2025 class.

Dominik Hulak, a three-star linebacker from Elmhurst (Ill.) IC Catholic Prep, has been on the Irish wish list as a future vyper defensive end. And he's been a frequent Notre Dame visitor with four trips to campus this year. The latest came in October to watch Notre Dame beat USC.

"The energy in the stadium was awesome," Hulak told Inside ND Sports following the visit. "The players were all hyped up. That really exceeded my expectations, because I definitely walked in wanting to see something that could not change my mind but add on to the school of what I [already] see it as."

Hulak has strong relationships with defensive line coach Al Washington, defensive coordinator Al Golden and director of recruiting Chad Bowden. I see those relationships winning out for Notre Dame.

According to MaxPreps, the 6-foot-3, 225-pound Hulak has totaled 36 solo tackles, six tackles for loss and three sacks in his junior season. IC Catholic Prep (9-2) plays against St. Laurence (8-3) on Saturday in the IHSA Class 4A state quarterfinals.

Hulak's offer list also includes Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Louisville, Missouri, Purdue and Wisconsin.
